DIR-868L - problem setting up Boxee with my home network
« on: May 29, 2015, 01:23:46 PM »

Hi,
I've recently purchased and installed the DIR-868L.
I have a problem with my Boxee not fiding my shared sources (shared folders from a PC running WIN 7).
The pc is conntected to the DIR-868L via cable, internet is running. The Boxee is connected to the DIR-868L via cable, internet is running.
I had my home network set up and working with my old router.
Have tried disabling the firewall - Boxee still can't find my shared folders.
Browsing Windows Network in the Boxee only shows DIR-868L, not my PC-network.

Anyone got tips on what I'm missing here? Feels like I've missed some setting for the DIR-868L...

Any help/tips are appreciated!

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Do you have folders shared out on the PC and set up so that Everyone can access them?
Is the PCs work group name and LAN domain on the router set for the same? Found on Setup/Networking page of the router.

  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv4/IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option.

You might try installing a external Gb network switch as well:
DGS-105 or 108 is recommended.

Hi FurryNutz,
and thank you for the prompt reply!

Boy am I glad to tell you that I managed to fix it right away!!!
Enabling IPv4 Multicast Streams did it for me...  ;D

Just in case someone else encounters same problem I will answer your initial questions below:

- Hardware Version : A1
- Firmware version: 1.10  (DIR-868L Rev A Patch v1.10 B04 WW)
- I am currently located in Sweden

My shared folders are set for access by Everyone
PCs work group name and LAN domain are the same

In Advanced / Advanced Network Settings:
Enable UPnP IGD : selected
Enable IPv4 Multicast Streams : selected
Enable IPv6 Multicast Streams : selected

I'd like to once again say a big thank you for the fast reply that gave me what I needed!  :)
