help with admin password
« on: December 01, 2011, 04:41:07 PM »

Hi guys Shaw had brought me a new wireless modem a couple of weeks ago so I disconnected my router. Today they brought m e back the wired one because of the channel packages or whatever. When I reconnected my router it won't give me any internet wireless or wired. I tried going into the router via IP adress and when I try7 to log in with the admin and no password it says wrong password. When I log in as user it says I need to log in as admin to make those changes. Can anybody let me know how to bring it back to factory default settings or how to crack the password for the admin. Thanks in advance.

Do a Factory reset of the router using the back button.

Thank you for the prompt response.
I did a reset with the toothpick hole in the back and The button with the circling arrows and still nil. If there is a way to re-install the firm ware I would appreciate if you can guide me to a sticky on how to do that and where I can find the program to install it. the model is the dir 601 .
Thank you in advance for your help.

Joe,

You have to press and HOLD the reset button in the back by the power plug down about 10-30 seconds without letting up.  That will reset it back to factory settings.  After it boots back up, the user name and password will be the default.

The button with the circling arrows is on the side and it's the WPS button, not the reset.

Thanks guys. I redid the reset a few times before it finally reverted to factory reset. I managed to fix it. Again thank you so much for your help.
