FTP test/connection succeed...yet no test file to be found ?
« on: October 06, 2016, 10:50:45 PM »

Hello !

Just got this camera and am quite impressed with its features....its not bad for what it is. Setup was ok and everything is running.

I have a ubuntu server i use as a NAS and am trying to use the NAS as the fileshare. I inputted all FTP settings and got the test to succeed. However, when i browse to that network path, there is no data there....why is that ? Succeeds test yet fails ? Kinda confused.

anyone come across this issue ? I also made a local folder on the same server with the same issue. idea ?

So you are getting the test.txt file?

Why did you setup a fileshare and try to use FTP?  ???

Do you have an FTP server running on this ubuntu server?

Which f/w if your 933L using?

Sending a test may not produce a test file on the server. Rather the test may check for the connection and authentication and the camera can connect to the configured server. I don't think it will generate a file.

My 2132L h/w A and 2230 produce files of "test.txt".

So yes a FTP server is running. Ive tested it with SFTP/WINSCP. The software on the camera also is supposed to be able to send the test picture.

So even after that issue, nothing is still uploading...image or video....

Its pretty strange.

I don't think dlink supports SFTP. Just ftp.
I don't know what winscp is.

Someone else had this issue in 2014. I don't really see any resolution in the post: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58375.0

It looks like cameraftp has how to configure to their site.

https://www.cameraftp.com/CameraFTP/Support/DLink/DLink5010LDCS933L.htm

I can only advise to start with basics - simple username and password, no specials characters, and to the main folder and no subfolders, and make sure all write permissions are good for the user.   Get something to work 1st.

Use passive mode.

Sometimes it is tricky to configure the drive path, since it is different on different cameras and ftp servers.  \\sharename\folder  //sharename/folder.

You haven't mentioned what parameters you are trying to use, so it is difficult to see if you are doing any obviously wrong.

And download filezilla client or some other ftp program (be careful, the one filezilla download contains ads and screws up your browsers). Make sure you can FTP to your server... to make sure it's not a camera issue..that might help you with sharename, etc.

Are you using internal server address or trying to use external ip address?

Sorry for the vague details ! apologies !

I have the current camera model, and all of this is internal network. I am using it all on the same network as well. My server can ping the camera with no problems and the camera "connects" to the server just fine. I have a RAID 1 array on my server that is a share i can access network-wide.

This is my FTP login details
- host - NAS
user - saad
pw - my pw
path - /mnt/md0/NetworkArray/CAM/

I run a test and on the device status it says that test succeed under FTP. When i go to that location....nothing there. The share sits on Ubuntu 16.04. Ive tested FTP with winscp (its like filezilla) and it works just fine. Ill try to post screenshots.

OK !
So here is some good news. It DOES work. Its been going to a differnt path.....but i dont know why and how ?

Its been going to my home directory and writing files to there...but why ? Is that because thats the FTP home directory ? Im trying to point it to my share, which is mounted in this way

/mnt/md0/NetworkArray/

However when this path is entered into DLINK, it re-creates the entire path to my home directory...same path structure starting with home/mnt/....

Thoughts ?

My DCS 2230 - I have a iUsbPort that I used as an FTP Server.  It does work with anonymous, and the remote folder name was "C/foldername"...

My DCS 2132L - ftp goes to my asus router, and that has an WD Ultra Passport usb drive, and that requires "My_Passport\foldername"...

Well, glad you figured it out once you found it.  I probably should have suggested searching for the test.txt.  Definitely didn't think about it ::)
