How to file share on LAN and WAN using mobile devies
« on: November 29, 2017, 09:12:25 AM »

I can not find any info on how why or what to use to access the shared USB hard drive from a mobile device. I have tried both shareport apps. They do not recognize this router as a shareport device. Also on one of the Dlink brochures, it does not list the DIR-882 as a shareport router. I am using Andriod mobile devices. I have the router set up correct because I can access the USB drive from my laptop.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I presume this model router doesn't support Shareport. I presume only network SMB shares are supported.

I would recommend getting into a router model like a DIR-8##L where the L is for cloud services which have more mobile app support. This model router doesn't support Cloud services.

I just bought this one, because it specifically says it has these capabilities of file sharing either on the LAN or WAN... I am not going out to buy another one. However after saying that. I would not have bought this one if I knew of the lack of literature of how to access its features. All I have been doing since Nov 20th is trying to do research on how to access this routers functions that it states it has but no literature how to use it. That is why I have joined this forum to find out how to access the DIR-882's function's.

My hardware version is A1
Firmware is :1.01B02

Share LAN and WAN for PCs. Mobile devices you'll need a (L) series router. DIR-885L or DIR-880L for starters...

The 882 is DLNA supporting so your PC and Mobile devices have to have DLNA support as well. If you have video files, like MP4s stored on the USB drive and you have the media feature enabled on the router and the router detects the drive, then the drive is automatically shared and detected by DLNA enabled devices and should play supported media files from the USB drive. This would be the only sharing support this model router supports...

Copied from their brochure.

SharePort Utility – Access and share a USB printer, scanner or storage device over your home network.

You need to have a DLNA supporting app on the laptop or PC to access the drive. Something like a media player app, like VLC or Windows Media player...If the DLNA is enabled on the router and the drive is working and has DLNA media loaded on the drive, a laptop or PC should see the drive and access the files thru a DLNA media enabled app.

I have the external USB drive connected to the USB3 port on the router, and have it as a shared drive on my laptop. No DNLA app or program to have to go through, just windows explorer.

I will get some techs on this.

I just tested MediaHouse UPnP/DLNA Browser (android) and it works well locally. Trying to figure how to do it remotely.
