EXO Mesh vs. Extender

For D-Link marketing its mesh connection for COVR and EO routers, I'd like to know the difference of operation for unit working only as extender.  My DRA-1360 is recognized both routers (x1872 & x1560) as extender only and mesh connection seems vague for me.  If different from reading their manuals on connection display and setting, how would my DRA unit could be recognized as part of its mesh?
