DCS-930L, NTP, and Daylight Savings Time
« on: March 15, 2011, 07:07:59 AM »

Am I just missing it, or is there some way on the DCS-930L, when using NTP to set and sync the time, to tell the webcam that Daylight Savings Time is in effect?
Time just changed this week in the USA, and the webcam, set for NTP and time zone EasternUSA, didn't flip over to DST.

Only way I found to have the right time displayed but still keep it set on NTP was to cheat and set a time zone that's one hour to the east, e.g. GMT-4 instead of GMT-5.
A "DST in Effect" checkbox on the user interface would be handy.

I could not find a way to adjust for DST either.
The NTP servers don't do it.  It would have to be a local function.

agreed, such a setting needs to be in the firmware. I set my time zone one to the East to get it to read effective DST.

Ditto here on the West Coast. None of mine (I have 4) changed after the recent DST change, so I stopped using NTP and resorted back to using my computer's local time.

I don't understand why the DCS-930 logic would be different than the DCS-1130 logic. I have 4 -1130 cameras running, each running GMT-5 and I selected the one of the Dlink NTP servers in each configuration. The rollover to DST was automatic.

Just set to your computers time!

That's what I do, but I just noticed that in the event of a power loss, or if I attempt to "reboot" the device by unplugging it from the wall for a few seconds, the time is reset to January 1, 2010. I have to log back into the camera and then reset it back to my computer's time.

In other words, the device lacks a battery to keep the clock going (like your PC has).

Just Google NTP servers.....
I set mine form the "pool" of online NTP servers in the United Stated for EST WITH DST.
You just copy/past the server name in there.
I could not get mine to do DST here in Miami (930L)
It's easy enough to do this manually.

D-Link should fix this in the firmware so we don't have to do ugly hacks like manually changing our time zone twice a year.

I agree, the timezone issue is a nuisance.  However, considering all the little nitpicky issues outstanding with the DCS-XXX, this is at the very bottom of my list. I'd gladly swap a fully functioning camera that's off by an hour over the many technical challenges I've had with my DCS-932L over the past month or so.

Hopefully someone out there is listening...
