The WINS server in my 890L is screwing up my network:

I cannot see any way to turn it off, but it is necessary. I only want one Master.

Are you running a external WINS server?
-
Yes, on my Linux server.
All the machines keep fighting to be the master.
-
Not sure if WINS is configurable on this router. I would phone contact D-Link support and ask. Most average home users don't have an external WINS server so maybe on home class routers, it's always enabled. ::) Support will have this information I presume.
-
I did contact support. They say it is not controllable from the interface. It needs to be. If you have a second router (used as a bridge), it also wants to control WINS. So do the Windows and Macs! They fight to be the master browser, and that kills the displayed samba shares.
Please put this in as an urgent request. At the very least, you need to be able to control its number (0-100). The highest one wins the fight.

Did you ask Support while you were on the phone to add this as a feature?
I can add it to the list however we can't promise anything. It's up to D-Link to review and approve. Again, this is a home class router and for most house holds that have a need for 1 router. Just saying.
If routers have a true bridge mode then when this is enabled, WINS would be disabled while in this mode.
I'll I can recommend is to disable the Linux WINS server and let the 890L handle it.
Makes me wonder if this issue is having an impact with your other issue:
