Title: No internet connection after restart
Post by: Neufy16 on April 29, 2013, 12:02:11 AM
Hi guys,

I will try and explain my situation as clearly as possible from the get go so there isn't a ton of probing questions that need to be asked.

My computer specs are:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (6.1, Build 7601)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: GA-770TA-UD3
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Display: ATI Radeon 5670, 2805MB
Anti-Virus: AVG Internet Security Version 2013.0.3272

Network Information:
Network Card: D-Link Xtreme N Desktop PCI Adapter DWA-552 w/ latest driver v. 1.70
Router/Modem: Telus Wireless N VDSL Modem Router
Security: WPA/WPA2
Encryption Type: AES
Compatibility Mode: Compatibility Mode (802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n)
Channel Width: 40MHz

My Situation:
Right now, everything works great. But, every time I restart my PC; my network card wont connect to the router. The SSID is displayed with full bars, however when I try to connect I recieve "limited access" and get the error
"Windows is unable to connect" - http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/6835/step1h.jpg

From here I need to re-install my network card.

Here's the weird part:
As I'm uninstalling the network card, my connection is quickly restored to perfect functionality for 5-10 seconds until the un-installation completes. When I re-install everything it works great... until I reboot my PC.

Side note:
- When I formatted my computer, this issue wasn't happening. I began installing all my windows updates then it started again. No I have no idea what one caused it.

If you have multiple network adapters, wired and wireless, are you disabling the wired adapter while the wireless is enabled or disconnecting the LAN cable?

Have you set up a wireless profile in windows for the wireless adapter to always connect to the desired SSID name?

Have you attempted to uninstall and then re-install the driver after all windows update was performed?

Disable any 3rd party security SW while installing the driver?

Have you set up Reserved IP address on the main host router for your device?

I would test with WiFi security temporarily OFF on the main host router to see if the same problem happens. Seems like something isn't being programmed or saved by the profile.

What kind of characters do you have in the SSID and the PW? I might try a simple SSID name and pw with out any special characters. Me sure to change the SSID to a name that is not used by anyone else. Sometimes this can cause confusion.

Yes, turn off WiFi security temporarily to see if the DWA will remain connected.

And have you manually configured your main host routers WiFi set up to a channel that is not being used by any of these other 3? Preferred channels to use is 11, 6 and 1 if they are not being used.

my channels on auto detect... I doubt that's it.

The card isnt working when the pc is restarted, forcing me to reinstall the driver, this has nothing to do with my router settings..
