Limiting wireless download speed
« on: April 13, 2011, 11:56:34 AM »

Is it possable to limit the download/upload speeds of a wireless computer on this router, the reason is i am at home working on files from my office computer and my son gets home, and starts downloading massive amounts of music an other crap, and i get disconnected to the office computer, and have to start from scratch again. I just want to limit his speed to maybe 25% of the max internet connection.

BTW i am totally newbie when it comes to making changes on the router,, i know a little amount of stuff like basic setup, but the advanced stuff someone Will have to give me a walk through

I would maybe change the WiFi mode from mixed to maybe A or B mode under Setup/Wireless. This will connect at a slower speed.

Another option would be to set him up on a static reserved IP address and make a QoS rule under Advanced/QoS, for his PC and set a low priority (200-255) so when he's online, QoS will make sure other devices will get traffic and he wont hog it all.

PM if you need extra help

ok, redid it, and rebooted router, so this will make him wait untill i have done my work, or something like that, he can still access what ever it is he does, but will not kick me off anymore right? or slow down my connection to the point i get kicked off?
