Adding a second DCS933L to my netwotk - FTP doesnt work
« on: June 23, 2015, 11:22:06 AM »

Hi

I have one DCS933L attached to my router DNS320L.  This is working perfectly and sends pics to the relevant folder etc...

However, when I purchased another DCS933L from Amazon as they have come down in price since last year I was able to connect my 2nd camera and see it in my sharelink centre online and on mydlink view.

However in the internal menu of the camera when I came to do the settings as per my other camer I hit a snag in that "FTP Server Test Can not connect to FTP server. "

I had same problem with the first camera and fixed that from a video I found on you tube which had all the correct settings etc which the manual failed to show.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqMP8TYTybc

To do this  I reserved an IP address for my camera as follows 192.168.0.XX  (XX being the number in the router that was assigned to to the camera)

I reserved my second camera with XX being initially 192.168.0.90.

This did not work as 90 was assigned to my printer.  I hadn't spotted that initially.

SO I change the IP 192.168.0.XX so that it was 2 spaced up from the original.  eg 192.168.0.35 and 192.168.0.37 (note not my real port numbers but you get what I am trying to say here).

Usiong D-Cam I was able to link the camera intil I found out that everytime I switched my PC off it was saving to my C drive.

In addition D Cam view I couldnd amend the link to my Z drive.

I gave up and tested ever user ID I have for the camera but to no avail it doesn't work.

My Email settings though do work.

Strangely though in surveillance centre I can see the camera and know it is recording to the DNS320L.  I addition I can see both cameras in mydlink.

NOTE my question does not specially relate to the DNS320L.

In a nutshell I am asking how do you add another DCS933L so that it connects to FTP correct.

The DNS320L is set up with 2 drives one for me and other for my partner.  I know something is being written to the drive in private as I can see where the video files are I can run them from the surveillance centre.

What could or am I doing incorrectly in my FtP settings or camera settings?

Any help and much appreciated having spent most of today getting nowhere and the last 2 days same problem.

Thanks in advance.

So the DNS320L is not a "router", rather a Storage device.

What is the Mfr and model if the main host router where the cameras and DNS-320L are connected too? This router would be a wireless router thats connected to the ISP modem and may have external antennas sticking up from it...

Is uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding enabled on both cameras?

You may need to set up a Port Range rule for your FTP settings and only on port can be used to connect from the Camera to the FTP services. So if you only have 1 port being used by the 1st camera, then additional ports will be needed for the 2nd one it seems like it could be the issue possibly.

Hi Furry

Both Cameras have uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding enabled. Is that correct?

Setting up a  Port Range rule for your FTP settings.....

Now that seems weird as DLinks literature as well as the surveillance software have upto XX amount of cameras so one would have thought that they would have thought of this eventuality!

On another note I did spote that the DNS320L had blocked both cameras as of last night under FTP.

Yes, correct for the uPnP settings..

If the DNS is now blocking the cameras, I presume there maybe a mis-configuration happening. I'm not familiar with the 320L so I don't know it's settings and configurations. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Hi Furry

My router seems to have made a right old hash of the IP addresses.

For some reason Camera was linked to the IP address allocated to my PC!

Another double linkage.

I have now removed that reserved IP address.

I will update shortly.

Regards

I recommend setting a reserved IP address for our PC on the main host router then set up a static IP address ON the camera itself, use 192.168.0.93 or .33. The Static IP address should be outside of the routers default IP address pool. I use .93 for my 933L. This keeps the camera from conflicting from other devcies and IP addresses.

Hi Furry,

I looked at what you linked me to and yes similar to my set up.

I reset all items and uploaded the newer drives.

Still no success!

So I rang UK DLINK and got hold of the most nobody's ever.

He treated me like I hadn't gone though all the processes.   He was as good a chocolate fire grate!

Anyway I still cant get my Camera to send pics to the DNS320L whatever combo of settings.  Just doesn't like it!

But I did notice that my cameras are sending pictures to my email accounts via the sharecentre.

I am going to have to leave it like that as I cant spend more time on this.

It is doing partially what I want it to do so I am happy to go with this.

And now for my pop at DLINK here is you need out of the box set up regardless of routers.

You aim this at the amateur market (Amazon) and then will not give support.

If the share centre has more on it then why is there no way to use the sharecentre to save pics to it is surveillance.

The share centre in the DNS320L is a lot more user friendly than the cameras.

Your UK support is abysmal.

Rant over. >:(

Furry thanks for your help so far.  If I ever et the pics working I will let you and the forum know.  But it is strange because I did have it working at one point.   The second camera mucked everything up.

You should be allowed to add another camera to the system out of the box e.g. copy settings of current camera and apply a new fixed address for it.

Regards

Next time ask for level 2 or higher support. Escalation seems to be needed here.

Keep us posted.
