Title: Connection Timed Out
Post by: pjenner on October 14, 2017, 08:46:27 AM
I’ve just bought a new IPhone 8 and loaded up MyDLink Lite. I can’t seem
to login successfully. It just displays “Connection Timed Out”. I’m using the app successfully on other iOS devices.
I’ve tried everything I can think of - trying both cellular and different Wi-fi networks, resetting network settings and even a different account.
I’m using iOS 11. Every other app works fine. I’ve also deleted and reloaded the app. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Same problem here, but with IPHONE7 with IOS11.0.3.
It doesn't validate D-Link cloud password and gives the "Connection timed out". No matter if using celldata or wifi.
I have an iPad Pro and an iPhone6 with 11.0.3 without the problem.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have submitted a case via the MyDLink support portal and received the following response:

Our Advanced Support Team has reported after testing that they are not experiencing this issue on iOS 11 with iPhone 8. They have suggested you delete the app from your iPhone, then restart your iPhone by holding down the Sleep/Wake and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons and install the mydlink Lite App again when the iPhone has rebooted.

I have followed the above steps and still encounter the same issue.   :-[

This happens using 3g/4g as well as Wi-Fi? Not a connection issue then. I've talked to a few techs who have both iOS (11.0.2 and 11.0.3) and they are not having issues.

Do you have special characters in your password (other than numbers and letters)?

It seems isolated to that phone so there may be maybe another app running that is interfering with the authentication to mydlink or some odd setting that is preventing it to log in.

Try installing the mydlink Home app and see if you can log in (it uses the mydlink back-end and login info) - just to see if mydlink is letting you log in. If you get the same error, definitely something on your phone that is not letting you log in. If you can, then something with the mydlink Lite app and your phone.

Thanks for the reply GreenBay42. I don't have any special characters in the password - just letters and two numbers. I've tried changing the password already.

I've downloaded the MyDLink Home app and can login with my credentials no problem at all. Logged in straight away. Unfortunately none of my cameras are listed. I have two DCS933Ls and a DCS932.

Must admit I'm pretty stumped as to why I'm getting the "Connection Timed Out" error on MyDLink Lite. Not sure what else to try.

Just to add that I can view the cameras on the "Local" setting.

This is very strange.  Seems unique to that device and the mydlink Lite app.

What version iOS are you running?

Did you upgrade iOS from 10.3.x? I have heard "upgraders" have experienced issues with apps in general.

When not a connection issue, most of the time uninstalling the app, reboot phone (regular reboot, not a force restart), and reinstall app solves these kinds of issues.

Have you contacted Tech Support (other than through mydlink.com)?

I've got a case number with D-Link Support and have submitted an image of the "Connection Timed Out" display.

I bought the IPhone 8 with IOS 11 already installed. The app didn't work from the very start. I've upgraded to 11.0.3.

I upgraded to iOS 11.0.3 the other day. I get full connections on the Local side with all 3 of my cameras.
I am noticing i'm getting a Could Not Connect error when trying to connected to my 936L on Remote side while at home. It looks like it starts to connect, I see the buttons on the bottom however the spinning wheel appears for a few seconds then I get the error message. Not sure if something here at home or what maybe the cause. Possible new router issue as well.  ::) My 933L and 960L work find on the remote side.

Just to update everyone. I attached a screenshot of the error and uploaded to MyDLink. I've now received the following message from Support:

"Your case is under Research at this moment. We will get back to you with new details very soon"

Just to update with some good news. I have been sent a Beta version of the MyDLink Lite app, which I have managed to log in successfully! They admitted there was an issue with the iPhone 8 on IOS11.

I am testing functionality to make sure everything works, but progress at least!

When connecting to a website, if Google Chrome browser fails to fetch the website to the browser, it throws an error saying "This site can't be reached Error (http://net-informations.com/q/mis/reached.html)" – ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. It means the server is taking too much time to replying. The main reason behind this error is your computer can’t be able to access the internet connection or maybe something blocking your network to establishing a connection.   Apart from the Network issue, there can be multiple reasons why this error shows up. Before going to any fix, please make sure the server you want to open is exist. If server exist,  there are numerous solutions which can be used to solve this error.

Clear your Chrome browsing data
Check your Network Cables, Restart your Router and Reconnect
Check your Windows Host File
Remove Proxy
Flush DNS and reset TCP/IP
Run Chrome Cleanup Tool
