I cannot save name devices on my D-link 890L.
« on: June 08, 2017, 05:30:11 AM »

I cannot save name devices on my D-link 890L.
There are boxes that open up and allow me to enter text when I click on a connected device, but I hit "save", nothing happens, I have to close the window manually, and when I come back to the device, the name I wanted to use for that device has NOT been saved. I was told when I purchased this device It could save device name, and it did briefly.  (I also tried adding a reserved IP to the save, and nothing happened there either)

Any ideas on how to properly save names on the D-link DIR 980L?
Here's a pic of the router interface window  am talking about. It's generic, and not my router. Never mind the arrows, and settings, just wanted to give you all an example.

UPDATE: actually my DIR890L appears to not be saving ANY settings, no names, not reserve IPs, and not parental control settings.
What gives>

Thanks!

What web browser are you using? Have you tried a different browser?

I have tried to use this name edit function on three separate browsers, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
My firmware is up to date I think:
Also I saw a video where the router has functions I do not even see when I use my user interface.
Options missing from my logged in page include
Network
Mydlink
Network

Ok, thank you for this information. Can you do a factory reset, then set up from scratch and go in and set up the names of your devices during this time frame? Use IE11 or FF for this please

Did a factory reset, and didn't even have to use another browser! Looks like names are saving now.
NOW:
If I can just get my user interface to show the "features" menu at the top of the page, I'd be ecstatic, but this is really helpful. Thanks!

Ok, I presume this is an issue we are seeing currently. After a long period of time, you'll run into this again. I'll make sure D-Link has a look at this again.  ::)

What browser and version are you using?

I was able to log in and change and save names in both Chrome and Opera.

Thanks again, it was driving me crazy!~I was thinking of changing it to AP mode, just to see if those functions became available.  But I don't want to mess with a happy outcome.

thanks again! You're the man!

Please come back at a later date and let us know if you can change the names of any of your devices and save the setting. I'm curious if this issue is really fixed.  ???

I am curious what you think the problem is? Are you suspecting the firmware isn't saving the settings correctly or is the info being overwritten when the router runs out of flash? What would cause it to work, and then stop working?

From my experiences, it started with the 880L and followed up to the 890L. I saw a timing behavior with if I did a factory reset, I could save settings and make changes to device names and such. If I came back say a few days later or beyond and tried to change a name, make a reservation or do anything in QoS and save settings, the changes were not saved by the router with out any indication of an error. Thought maybe browsers could play a roll or clearing caches. Didn't seem to help any. Only a factory reset would make the router save any changes. I don't know for sure if this was fully addressed by D-Link. I saw various issues with running out of reservations even before hitting the limit. Just seemed like after a period of time, the router stops accepting changes in the Client network map area for some reason. Only happens with this new UI.  ???
