The following FAQ post describes the basics of using an external IR illuminator to extend the effective range of Night Mode cameras: DCS Network Cameras - Improving Night Mode with an External IR Illuminator (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56979.0)

If you have additional information that could improve upon the referenced FAQ post (above) or see any glaring errors, please let me know and I'll make the appropriate changes.  :)

Does anyone know if the DCS-7513 works with an IR Illuminator that works on 940nm wavelength ?

D-Link cameras work best with 850nm.  850 is better for image quality and distance. Using 940 will not work as well or at all with most cameras.
