Thank you for the update.
After 24hrs of use, I experienced the addressed subject of not-answering-to-commands.
I upgraded from 1.04 to 1.06.
Resetted the cam two times, repeated setup twice. Now it's a 10 minutes routine.
But. Then.
Using the d-link app for android, I searched for the device.
Got to the point where I had to enter the PIN-code...
I entered the P/N code from the label on the cam, at least 5 times. No chance.
The P/N No "ECS5010L....." uses big letters - I typed big letters, small letters,
took only one "." where the P/N No shows two ".." - no chance.
What's wrong?
Apart from that, I added the cam to a wlan by chosing the wlan from a list of shown wlans.
Entered its passwort, saved.... it takes 3 minutes, I see a green light, but
cannot even ping the camera, which has got a fix IP from the router.
Any ideas: welcome! Any questions: Feel free to ask.
Regards,
Gercam from K-Town aka Kaiserslautern, Germany

PS. Resetted and re-setup-ed the camera again twice.
After that, cam did again connect properly to wlan.
Maybe some resets were not necessary - during the last effort
I gave the camera again the name which I had used
for the first successful day.
Actually, afterwards I could address the cam inside the wlan.
But, using the mydlink app, searching for the cam lead again
to the PIN-code entry. No entry worked out.
Neither the P/N-code, mentioned above, nor the wlan-code,
nor the admin access code. Where do I find the correct code,
this is my question.
Regards,
Gercam

Is there a pin code on a information card in the cameras shipping box?
I presume the code you refer to is the admin code to access the cameras web page?
the P/N is not the code. Thats a product model number.

Gosh!
Short: the demanded pin code was in my case identical with the password,
which I had given to the camera during setup.
Long version:
A. Press the reset button longer than 10 secs.
B. Give the cam a moment to reset
C. Search for the WLAN/Wi-Fi of the camera and connect to it,
using the Wi-Fi password given on the config card of this camera.
D. Connected? Open a browser and type: 192.168.0.20
E. See the "homepage" of the camera and go to Administration.
Give the camera a name (save!) and then, afterwards, a passwort (that one is it!)
F. Do other settings, e.g. low frame rates of 10 fps
G. Do other settings. Set time and date by copying these data from your laptopp/pc by the "COPY" button.
H. Go to Wi-Fi-Settings (left column) and LOOK for XOUR Wi-Fi/WLAN by using the SEARCH button.
I. CHOOSE your Wi-Fi /WLAN, then enter a password
K. SAVE the password - NOW the cam stops its own DCS-5010L-WiFi/WLAN and tries to connect to YOUR Wi-Fi/WLAN
L. WAIT (a minute or so). You should see blinking lights in blue and red, and finally a constant GREEN LIGHT.
M. Close your browser
N. Open the mydlink app on your smartphone.
O. Add new device
P. Scan the QR-code of your camera
R. Go on and chose WPS-SETUP
S. Go on 3 times till you must enter the PIN code.
T. Enter the password which you have given to the cam at point "E."
U. Select the time zone
V. Wait.
X. IT IS DONE.
Y. Use your cam in this Wi-Fi surrounding
Z. Use your cam by using the mydlink app when you are connected to other WiFi/WLAN somewhere in the world.

HAVE FUN. And try to understand the 40-50 pages instruction manual from D-Link. If you have time.

Hi FurryNutz
Thank you for your double response.
First one made me go for this last & succesful trial.
I nearly went nuts when trying to enter the "pin-code".
I will do my very best and now enjoy the camera...
well we have some sad circumstances which
laid the basis to buy this camera. So, joy is
limited, but we are very glad that we can use it,
now, nonetheless.
Regards
Gercam from K-Town...

D-Link typically escalates issues for resolution based on the volume of calls received through the official D-Link support desk. If D-Link receives a large number of calls pertaining to the same issue, that issue is more likely to be escalated as a problem for investigation and resolution. To raise awareness, forum members are encouraged to call the toll free D-Link support desk to report their issue: 1-888-851-6464. You can ask to escalate the issue from level 1 to a higher level. there's only so much we can offer through this forum in the way of support and re-mediation. Since your concerns (satisfaction and otherwise) extend beyond the reach of this forum, I recommend contacting D-Link Technical Support. Good Luck.

For 5009, 5010 and 5020 latest firmware updates causing problems many problems with cameras including remote pan and tilt via PC and mobile devices.
Reversing to prior firmware eliminated problem.

I should note that the DCS-5020L has a recent FW update released this month (April, 2015) that addresses the remote pan/tilt issue.  Hopefully a fix the other impacted models is coming soon.
