it means "it's only software" to add it.
Not quite. Software means development, testing, documentation, support, etc. Although I understand your point was that it 'physically' can do it as no hardware change is required. Personally, I'm already running USB sticks and HDDS as it significantly enhances the usability of the product. It doesn't matter to me if it is built in, or 3rd party, as ultimately it's just a standard Linux module that you need to load.

EARS 4K HD support. There are other NAS units that support EARS drives. 1.10beta seems to have that support and I hope everything goes well.

I wish it would be more stable.
Again one of the drives is not visible. Have restarted, unpluged, ... no success. Need to unmount drives and put them back.
Also the incremental backup would need some fix. Has never finished successfully.
And proper support for ÕõÄäÖöÜü letters. Many of my problems are initiated from there actually.

Did you factory reset the DNS-323?

It doesn't matter to me if it is built in, or 3rd party, as ultimately it's just a standard Linux module that you need to load.

I am aware of all of that. I founded a software company earlier in my career, and I'll point out that harping about "development, testing, documentation, support" and then saying you don't care if the software is a 3rd party hack is self contradictory.

However, I also can look at the list of "features" that have been addressed in the various firmware revisions, including the v1.10 beta, and it's clear it's not market driven. If someone associated with the DNS-323 project had done a market driven Pareto of features for a small NAS, they'd have come up basically what everyone else in the universe has - that if you have a USB port on the unit, #1 most valuable use to the most users would be external drive support with a distant #2 as UPS support. Yet the reverse is what has been implemented. Adding low usage high-liability (for D-Link) stuff like BitTorrent is nuts and indicates the firmware is technology driven by what the programmers think is cool rather than what the most users would find useful. Same with v1.10 beta having a 6 year old Bonjour client folded in instead of a modern version, features that work in one firmware version being broken in later versions, etc.

What I'd like to see most of all is support for Windows 7 libraries. This means that the DNS-323 has to index its hard disks to XML files. I believe this is based on Windows Search 4.0.

If this is added, you can properly add a NAS share to your library and search/browse it incredibly quickly, because Windows won't actually have to scan the share (and thus the disks) but it can simply use the XML index file.

This may be a long shot and I don't expect it to arrive in 1.10, but maybe 1.11? :)

1)  USB Drive support
2)  A working SSL ftp connection over the internet
3)  An NZB Client
4)  Support for bigger drives, e.g. 3TB+ (does dlink know how hard it already is to get hold of a working 2TB these days!?)
5) Be able to add more than 1 folder to the list in UPnP server.

Definitely a stable NFS add-on! At least for me, using the NFS add-on with the 1.09 firmware causes the DNS-323 to become unresponsive via NFS/CIFS/Web within minutes or hours after it's booted.

music id tags so I can play my albums in the correct order.
It's not a big thing but I think of it every time I play music on my PS3 (which is often).

Fix the FAN issue on the newer C1 DNS-323 Models...

This is a bug (HDD standby/fan at max) and should have been fixed a long ago. Damn D-Link for ignoring stupid bugs like this for months and years. I mean it would be really that hard to fix it?

That said, did D-Link have mercy and is it fixed in 1.10 beta?
