The version which is working for my 933L (firmware v1.10.B03) is still not published on the internet. Very strange. So I don't think you will get a new version. Just contact support. And tell about the 933L case and the firmware v1.10.B03. I have e-mail addresses if you need.

  • What region are you located?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Just stumbled across this thread after spending literally the whole day trying to figure out why I was getting "Failed to create directory" when attempting the FTP test on my 932L to my new router, a Zyxel VMG8924-B10A. Note that my camera is a 932L, not 933L. Perhaps likely that other, if not all, Dlink cameras have this problem?

As above, unticking the create subfolder option fixes the issue.

BTW, my old router (with USB FTP) was a Thomson Speedtouch 585n which all worked fine. So it appears to not only be specific to Netgear routers!

I also have a Trendnet TV-IP851WIC camera which also suffers the same problem. The layout of the web gui seems rather similar to dlink cameras, I've always suspected some kind of similarity between the two..

Hoping for a camera-wide fix soon..!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm located in the UK. I'll try giving them a ring tomorrow. Will update once I've got hold of them.

Update:

I got hold of D-Link UK support via telephone today regarding my DCS-932L. I've provided all of the necessary information to them, including the URL to this forum thread. The chap I spoke to (first line support I'm led to believe) seemed to not have heard of this issue off-hand, perhaps understandably for someone taking calls at first line.

I also submitted a support request to Trendnet, the manufacturer of my other camera which suffers from exactly the same problem.

We shall see who replies first I guess :)

Let us know what you find out. Seems to be an issue at the router level mostly.

Yes. Although we all understand the problem in this forum thread. D-Link themselves seem to have trouble reading (both my messages themselves and their inability to read this forum thread). Currently battling with them to try and get them to understand the root cause. At the moment they are simply stating that they've tested it with their own FTP service (from some dlink device) and cannot replicate the issue, almost (but not quite) therefore insinuating that all is well. They are asking me to test with another FTP service, despite my previous correspondance informing them of exactly that (2 tests with VSFTPD and Filezilla Server and also obviously my previously working router). I've also directed to this thread for the 2nd time, hopefully they take the recommendation and actually read it.

Apologies for rant-level of tone, not directed at you guys obviously, it's to D-Link who might hopefully now be reading this. As much as we all love tech, etc, I'm sure the majority of us are busy and time is relatively precious. Repeating facts to D-Link technical support, who by their very nature should be the ones who have the correct problem-solving mindset and analytical skills more so than the average consumer (OK, I'm a software dev but not quite the point!), is not a constructive use of my time. More so especially as they have identified and solved this problem once already with a different camera (also, potentially manifesting itself as a camera-wide problem). You guys are great though obviously! :)

Will update as time goes on.

D-Link has been already made aware of this issue and I believe has already taken steps to begin to resolve this:

I presume it should be in the next FW update.

Update from me, the new DCS-932L firmware (Rev.A v1.11.03, Rev.B 2.11.03) has the fix implemented. I have Rev.A of the DCS-932L and have tested this to be now successfully creating folders on demand (per day & hour) on my Zyxel VMG-8924 router.

D-Link support did not successfully diagnose my problem and sent me down a rabbit hole basically with their suggestions.

Release notes of firmware available at: http://d2okd4tdjucp2n.cloudfront.net/DCS-932L/DCS-932L_A1_Release_Note_for_FW_v1.11.03.pdf

I just found out this bug was only fixed in version v1.10.B03. And not in all newer versions for the 933L. I never updated to newer versions. All my cams still run on v1.10.B03. I bought a new 933L and it was not working again so I had to downgrade to v1.10.B03.

Why is this bug never fixed in newer versions??

Bug:
The reason of this issue is because the Netgear R7000 / AC1900’s return code for the FTP "create folder" command is different from other FTP servers. A new process to handle the new return code had to be added in firmware v1.10.B03 to make this work. A simple compatibility issue between the server and client used in these units.  No ETA yet on the new firmware release date for US region, but the process has started.
