Title: Power supply woes and dd-wrt
Post by: jeffeypop@outlook.com on May 24, 2020, 12:46:40 AM
So, I bought this router a while back bc I saw it on mercari for something insane like 15 bux and wanted to do a dual vpn set up with my old archer c7 so that I could still access my streaming cable and stuff like that.  I kept consistently having issues, sometimes it would let me log in, sometimes not, sometimes wifi would work, sometimes not, yadda yadda yadda.  Anywho, I got frustrated and just went back to the archer and the 895l has been sitting.

Started messing with it tonight and could swear I saw/heard arcing coming from somewhere on the ac adapter.  Pulled out the multimeter and voltage was fine at 12.1 or so, but the amps were all over the place, so much so that my multimeter was blinking like "this is not good man."  So, I like the router it looks cool and when it did work I got AMAZING ranges, would like to hook the dual vpn set up again.  My question is, did that janky power supply do damage to the motherboard or other guts of the unit?  It's a pretty hefty power supply and I'm sure even a knock off would be 20 bux or so, a lot considering what I paid for the router, and not looking to waste that if the internals are fried.  Any help greatly appreciated!!!

I would find another power supply with same volts and amps and see if the 895L is working. Look on Amazon for fleabay...
