dsm-750 dual-band 5Ghz question
« on: November 13, 2009, 01:42:42 PM »

So having finally given up on my dir-655 I decided to try out a dual band router.  Now, dont get all angry with me here, but I bought a linksys wrt610n this time.  It was on sale.  Heres my question.  All my N gear (3 other devices) finds the 5Ghz band fine.  Except for the dsm-750.  It only finds my G band at 2.4Ghz.  Am I trying to do something that the dsm-750 is incapable of here?  Here is my current setup, please let me know if I have set something incorrectly for it to operate with the dsm-750.  The dsm-750 was my inspiration for switching to a dual band router.

5Ghz
network mode: N only
channel width: auto (20 or 40)
ssid broadcast: enabled
security mode: wpa2-personal
encryption: wpa-tkip or wpa2-aes

2.4Ghz
network mode: G only
channel width: 20
ssid broadcast: enabled
security mode: wpa2-personal
encryption: wpa-tkip or wpa2-aes

thanks, Chris

Do you have two different SSID names one for each band?

No. Thats how it should be. There may be something wrong with e 5Ghz radio in the DSM-750. Did it work with the DIR-655?

Having had so many problems with the dir-655 I am hesitant to say yes.  It did but if I remember correctly it was connected at 130Mbps or something.  So I assume that means the dsm-750 was using the 5Ghz radio.  Or, I could be totally out to lunch.

Where do I start if I want to trouble shoot the 5Ghz radio on the dsm-750?

EDIT:  I had to run downstairs and take the dir-655 out of the box to check, but it only has a 2.4Ghz radio.  So I guess my dsm-750 was never using its 5Ghz radio.

Yeah it was just connecting using 802.11N on the 2.4Ghz band the DIR-655 does not support 5Ghz. Try disabling the 2.5Ghz band and see if the DSM-750 will even find the 5Ghz radio broadcast and it is not set to invisible or anything like that.
