Title: Firmware Upgrade for DCS-930L and DCS-932L
Post by: rjmmoon on May 04, 2011, 03:14:39 AM
I just logged into my cameras and received notice on each camera that there is a firmware upgrade required. There is no information as to what was upgraded, and there is an option to upgrade later. The upgrade is from the current version: 1.00_build_9 to the latest version: 1.02_build_3'.
Follow the instructions carefully. You can only upgrade from the router or modem where the cameras are located, no remote upgrade permitted. I cannot access one camera that I have in another location at all until I am physically at that location, which is a real bummer!

Yeah, I just saw that today too. Good thing I didn't mount my "backyard" camera yet as I plan on installing it under the easel on my 2nd story roof!

And I too would like to know what's new with the new firmware!

RELEASE NOTES people!!!  >:(

I called DLink tech support, and was told to ignore the upgrade request????? I asked what the upgrade was for and they did not know????? I also asked why I cannot access my remote camera, and they did not know (something with their server)????? I am supposed to get a call back....yea right!!!!!

Well I did the upgrade anyway, and although it was not in the instructions, I unplugged the other cameras while upgrading (just as I recommend unplugging all cameras when installing a new one...even other brands!), and kepy each unplugged until all were upgraded. The upgrade on each camera went flawlessly, and I see a noticeable difference in how each boots up in mydlink.com.  Funny thing, the firmware upgrade had a date of 12/2010....I wonder what took do long to deploy it to us?????
Now if I could only get Firefox to zoom in......

Anyone else had their config page switch to french after the upgrade? It's a bug or at least they provided me the wrong firmware language upgrade from mydlink. Not sure how to return it to english now!

Re-install and choose ENGLISH.

Did the firmware upgrade impact the sound quality (or lack thereof) on the DCS-932L?

Yes, it happened to me, back in April when I first discovered this upgrade lurking on the support site.
A reboot of the web cam fixed the language problem and made it revert to English.

The upgrade is from the current version: 1.00_build_9 to the latest version: 1.02_build_3'.

Are you sure you wrote this correctly?  Builds incrementally increase in number, so v1.00_build_9 should be more recent than v1.00_build3 (not the other way around).

One thing i did notice about new firmware is in the Mail>Time Schedule> Motion Detection.  You can now E-mail attached with 6 frames (3 frames before and 3 frames after motion frame). Or E-mail motion frame immediately

Yes.

Sorry, I misread the version numbers in your post.  1.00b9 -> 1.02b3 (it must be too early here. . . I thought I read 1.00b9 -> 1.00b3).

I'm somewhat surprised there's no version history describing the changes.

Standard practice is to accompany the new version with release notes that incorporate a Change Log.  Not doing this very sub-standard....makes me think twice about the rest of their sw development practices....
Sigh, so simple a caveman can do it...too bad we haven't prgressed that far...."D-Link - making the simple hard again...."

True, but to their credit, I own multiple D-Link devices (i.e. non-camera) and, for the most part, they all have formal change logs associated with each firmware release.  I would like to see a formal beta sub-forum for firmware updates and change logs for the DCS series (similar to some of the other product lines in this forum).

Dear all,

After I did the firmware upgrade for my DCS-930L, I always get the warning message when i try to log in the Camera Setting:

"Content was blocked because it was not signed by a valid security certificate.
For more information, see "Certificate Errors" in Internet Explorer Help."

If I choose "Display Blocked Content", I can continue but I can not view the Live Video.

Please, help me to fix this problem.
Thanks

Please, help me to fix this problem.

If you are unable to resolve this issue, you can revert to your prior firmware version.  I believe using the "Reset" button on the back of the camera will only set the camera user settings to default values, not the firmware.

(1) Obtain a copy of the old firmware and save to your desktop
(2) login to the web GUI and save your settings: Maintenance -> System -> Save to Local Hard Drive. This file will enable you to quickly restore your user/wireless settings if future problems occur.
(3) Reset your user settings (holding the reset button on the rear of the DCS)
(4) Upload the old firmware: Maintenance -> Firmware Updgrade
(5) Run the Setup Wizard
(6) If things still don't work out, you can always restore the settings file  that you saved to your desktop in step "2".

Here's something to try:

(1) save your configuration settings file (like I described in my prior post).
(2) take note of the firmware version and date (Maintenance -> Firmware Upgrade)
(3a) Restore factory default using the button on the rear of the camera (as per the user manual)
(3b) The manual also describes a reset procedure where you place a paperclip in the pinhole on the rear of the camera.
(4) Revisit the web GUI (Maintenance -> Firmware Upgrade) to see if the firmware was also reset

If the firmware version is still the same, you can upload the file created during step "1" to restore everything.

Is there a way to remotely reset the camera?  Another post mentioned using FTP, how do you do that?

I too received the notice to upgrade while operating remotely, ignored it (couldn't follow directions without physical access), and now I cannot connect to the camera.

Curiously, I can get logged into mydlink fine via Firefox browser and using my android phone app, but Internet Explorer, ver 9, comes up with a website error.

My camera had been operating for about 2 weeks, but has now been offline for 4 days.  I had the cable company do a remote reset of the modem and they could tell the router was working fine as well.

Please let me know if there is any ideas how to get the camera online again.

Thanks

Don't shoot the messenger. On two occasions D-Link said that since no external firmware file exists for restoring the DCS-932L to the factory default setting (in the event of corrupt firmware), they don't have the capacity to perform issue resolution on the DCS-932L beyond the stepwise walking of users through the setup process. So if they hit a wall, an RMA is issued.

Makes no sense.

Hey everyone, I stumbled upon a way to make the new firmware 1.02 work in english. At least it worked for me.
Just reinstall the new firmware again, when finished it will now show in english. Only downside is that you have to muddle your way through the install in French.

It would be nice if a representative from D-Link would visit this section of the forum to explain what's going on with the firmware (and hardware) development cycle as it relates to the DCS-93X series, but I suppose that would be too much to ask.

An interesting problem for you Guys. My dcs-930l was working fine on wireless, until I did the firmware upgrade. Now no matter what I do, I can't get the wireless to work. I am using a quest q1000 modem. I have tried pressing the wps button on the exterior of the case, as well as connecting to the modem and making sure wps is turned on in the modem itself, and trying to use use the button for push button configuration there. Any ideas, or solutions?

You may want to try resetting the camera to the factory defaults by holding a paper clip in the pinhole on the rear of the camera for 8 seconds (while the camera is powered up).

I experienced a similar issue where I couldn't connect using wireless even after reverting to the default firmware.  D-Link customer support was unable to correct the wireless either. Ultimately, I received an RMA for a new device.

Title: RELEASE NOTES!
Post by: TD99 on July 27, 2011, 12:57:01 PM
OK, so I contacted D-Link Support and actually got a hold of the firmware release notes (which appear to be internal confidential company documents).

I also complained about the fact that no D-Link employee ever chimes in on the many posts here in the forum. This was their response...

Please copy and past the link below into your browser to download the release notes. notes for your firmware will begin at the 1.02 b3 on the second page

http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/temp/PMD/7554/DCS-930L_A1_Release%20Note_FW1.03build3.doc (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/temp/PMD/7554/DCS-930L_A1_Release%20Note_FW1.03build3.doc)

The forum is moderated however it is not staffed to provide support. The forum is for the community to assist other members and to chat about the products and experiences or issues with the product.

Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465.

Thank you for networking with D-Link.

You will notice that the latest firmware version shown on page 1 of the doc is of v1.03_build3 which I didn't even know existed. I only knew of v1.02_build 3. Furthermore I don't know if it's actually been released (I certainly can't find it).

One thing's for sure, absolutely no firmware files can be found on the product's download page (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DCS-930L&tab=3 (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DCS-930L&tab=3)).

The only place I've seen any mention of firmware updates is when I log into mydlink.com. I posted a screenshot of that earlier in this thread.

Good to know. I'll ask them when v1.03, Build 3 can be expected for customers in the US.

I am still running v1.00 Build 9 on all six of my cameras, and after reading the release notes, I see some issues I've been encountering resolved in the newer versions.

Some of the issues include:

- Fixed motion detection block area settings incorrect. (fixed in v1.00, Build 10)
- FTP (motion detection mode) upload sometimes stop abnormally. (fixed in v1.01, Build1)

And here are some enhancements I'd like to take advantage of:
- Add e-mail 6 motion frames (3 frames before and 3 frames after motion detection) option (added in v1.01, Build1)
- Support Firmware Restoration on bootcode when update firmware failed. (added in v1.03, Build 3)

I stand corrected. Although the document is posted on their Taiwan site, the firmware is labeled as "ww", which stands for world-wide release.  The china-only releases are labeled differently. There are firmware versions on the site which are china-only and world-wide.

You can select the model series and number from this link: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/
From here you'll have an option of downloading the ww (world wide) or country-specific firmware versions.

As I stated in my earlier post, be mindful of the location the firmware is targeted for (e.g. ww, China, CN, etc.)

Glad to help.

One further note. D-Link (U.S.A.) maintains their United States documentation and firmware here: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dcs930L/

If the firmware is missing from the United States location, there's usually a reason it's not out for distribution. Something to keep in mind.

(still waiting for an RMA on my DCS-932L, so can't comment on your "mydlink.com" issue)

I have three cameras. 1 took the update fine, the other 2 failed the upload and are locked up -flashing red led. In this state there is no way to recover / reload the flash with a valid image. D-Link support issued an RMA for each camera.

Problem now is setting up my motion detection grid. I can't see the grid even though I have the latest Java applet. Anyone else have this issue? Is it because I have the latest Java Version 6 update 26?

Thanks,

Well, I was finally able to log into mydlink yesterday and saw that they changed the "new firmware available" screen. It now looks like this:

I inadvertently clicked on Update now (while at the office -- the cam is at home), and although it's not recommended, the firmware was successfully upgraded via the wireless connection.

The things I've noticed going from 1.00 Build 9 to 1.02 Build 3:

- The Live Video doesn't work now. It shows a blank area where the image should be. And the clock is not updating (using FireFox 3.6, Java 6 Update 26). Same goes for the Setup > Motion Detection screen. Totally blank (white) where the image should be.

- On the mydlink.com site, when I click the Camera Settings tab and then the Camera web page button, my browser tells me that the connection in untrusted to which I then have to add the exception EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to connect. This is because the port changes every single time.

- In the camera's UI, there's a new section under Setup > Mail > Time Schedule > Motion Detection that now captures the 3 images before and 3 images after motion was detected. You can even select the duration between each capture (e.g. 1 second). (The FTP function, however, lacks this new feature and remains unchanged.) So now I get 6 attached images with each email. This is pretty cool. I still wish they would add a SCHEDULE to the motion detection so I that don't get 1,000+ emails every time I decide to wash my car on the driveway!

I'm very hesitant to test new beta firmware (or releases) that aren't posted on the primary U.S. distribution sites. From experience, upgrading firmware that so closely impacts the hardware from alternate sources causes more harm than good.

At home now. The Live Video function for the updated cam shows fine. Must be a firewall issue at the office.

However, the other 5 cams aren't showing a firmware update available at mydlink.com now, even though they are still on v1.00 Build 9. Also, none of the other cams' names are showing at mydlink.com, just their ID number. Only the name for the flashed cam is showing. Weird. Going to download the 1.02 Build 3 file and try flashing the other five cams manually.

Also, since the mydlink site is no longer nagging me about the older firmware on my other 5 cams, I found the v1.02 Build 3 file here:

http://www.mydlink.com/download (http://www.mydlink.com/download)

Under the DCS-930L section, it shows a firmware version "1.00", but if you click it, it will download 1.02, Build 3. Again, weird!

This type of ambiguous updating (and lack of clear notice) is not unique to the DCS-930L. I've experienced similar issues with other D-Link devices.

Update: Yesterday, from home, I upgraded the firmware on all six cameras from v1.00, Build 9 to v1.02, Build 3 using an Ethernet cable. All six cameras appear to be functioning fine now in their UI while at home, on the mydlink.com site from home, and on mydlink.com from the office.

Using the "mydlink lite" Android application on my phone (LG Optimus S) works fine whether it is connected to my local router via wi-fi, or via Sprint's 3G network. (Note: There is still no time limit when connecting wirelessly to my router while at home, but there is still a 60-second time limit when connecting via Sprint's 3G network.)

However, the LIVE VIDEO function in the camera's UI still does not work from the office (it worked prior to the firmware upgrade). I am sensing that it may have something to do with the newer version of Java and our company's firewall. No matter, I can live with that.

The FTP function also seems to be more reliable now plus I am no longer getting images uploaded with 0 bytes as before. I do like how the email motion-detection function now send me 6 images however, I still wish that the overall motion detection function had a "schedule" feature so the function could be disabled at certain times.

I have a DCL930L Current Firmware Version : 1.00 Current Firmware Date : 2010-08-02 and a DCL932L Current Firmware Version : 1.00 Current Firmware Date : 2010-12-20. I update my web set using motion detection and sequence numbering and am facing a few challenges I would like to make sure I have latest firmware. Where do I find this? And is it worth upgrading?

This is my first time on this forum, so go easy.

1. Visit the following link http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/.
2. Select DCS-932L
3. Download the firmware labeled "ww" (world wide)
4. The DCS-932L web interface contains a function to upload new firmware.

I personally have not tested this version, nor can I attest to the new functionality (i.e. use at your own risk).

Thank you. It appears from the release dates that I have the latest versions. For future reference can I just log into the camera and go to Maintenance, Firmware Upgrade, to load the latest firmware?

Yes. You need to save the firmware locally to your PC and then select the file via the Maintenance tab in the DCS-932L web interface.

Another important note: Whenever performing a firmware upgrade, make sure you have a stable connection (preferably wired) between your PC and D-Link device. If the firmware upload fails due to a broken connection or communication disruption, the device may be rendered unusable.

I just had an opportunity to setup my replacement (i.e. RMA'd DCS-932L). I was unable to stabilize wireless with the new camera and thought I'd try upgrading the firmware as a Hale Mary Pass. Sure enough, wireless is finally stabilized and the camera is working properly with FW v1.02.

What is odd is that I was never prompted to upgrade my 932 camera...only my other three 930's....

The DCS-930 and DCS-932L have different firmware files and versions. If the DCS-930 firmware was placed in the U.S. database, while the DCS-932L was not, then that would explain why only the DCS-930 detected an update.

How would you know to upgrade the 932 and where is the upgrade? it is the only camera I have without the 60 second timeout...maybe I should not upgrade?

I don't know if the DCS-932L firmware was omitted by design or unintentionally. The D-Link Taiwan website contains a release labeled as "world wide" (as opposed to others labeled as "China only"). The firmware is accompanied by detailed release notes and a change history.

I've been using D-Link products for some time now, so I know where the firmware releases for different products are typically maintained in the U.S. and Internationally:

Taiwan: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/
United States: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/
