There may be some relief for you.

D-Link indicated that a factory reset is the trigger to generate new trust certs with a number of the D-Link cameras models. My contact is not sure if that functionality was carried over to the ShareCenter line. He's going to ask engineering and get back me.

If you have a physical backup of your data and save a Configuration Settings file through the web UI for user setting restoration, you can always test this yourself. Performing a factory reset should not impact your data volumes, but will clear out all your user settings. I am personally in the mindset of not doing anything that can potentially compromise my data, especially since we don't know if a new cert will be generated. I'm presenting the option nonetheless. :-\

Thank you.  At least engineering knows about the issue.  I appreciate your assistance.

I am not concerned about access to my data as it is behind a non permenant IP address.

There's no telling when I'll hear back, but at least you have a potential solution (that may or may not work), if you're up for some experimentation.  :-\

Re Your Tag Line.

I took on the system administration of large system.
They had been doing DB backups for several years.
I asked Did you ever do a Restore?

Answer NO!

They has several years of Write Only Backups!

On another of my assignments my job was keeping IBM for screwing up my users.
It was more than a full time job.

My job was keeping everything running.
A 2-3 day outage at the wrong time could cost the out of pocket expense to be about $250,000,000US.
Believe it or else!

I'm not surprised. You would be shocked (or perhaps not) how many small to large (Fortune 500) size businesses are operating without a safety net for their data, I've seen reasons range from:

  • Failed job schedulers that no-one routinely checks/validates
  • IT administrators leaving the organization with no procedures or knowledge transfer communicated to replacements that routine backups are required
  • No backups EVER made for specific storage locations
  • Improperly configured backup jobs resulting in defective backups (what you described earlier)

All this doesn't even account for the fact that the vast majority of organizations do not backup corporate laptops which are vulnerable to breakage, loss, and theft, resulting in lost data and productivity. For a fortune 500 sized company, what is the cumulative annual loss in revenue from all those laptops whose HDDs that are irreconcilably corrupt or which are outright lost/stolen?

And how about mobile phones and tablets? How many people routinely download their cherished photos and videos to another storage location? And of those people that do download their photos/videos, what fraction of those people maintain a backup of the photo/video archive?

Need I say more!

I am currently looking for  device to house the 4 WD 2TB drives that I am currently using in the DNS 343.
The manufacturer will have to have a good support reputation and not leave customers high and dry.
Any Suggestions!

Due to the uniqueness of the filesystem, there's a strong likelihood that HDD's formatted on the DNS-343 will not be recognized on other brand NAS.

I appreciate that what you are saying is true.
However the WD disks are not compatible with any current device with cloud ability.
So I am looking for a plan B.
WD has expandable cloud service devices that I am considering.

Since I have two D-Link products with significant issues that have been orphaned
by D-Link, I will refrain from such purchases in the future in favour of alternate vendors.

In addition, I will only purchase a router that has 3rd party software available.

Once bitten...

I am not going away angry, I am just going away.
I will not tell others what to do, just what I am doing.
I will let big boys and girls make up their own minds.
The decision was made long ago.
