Title: "Connection to server failed." (Bittorrent)
Post by: Snowman on May 29, 2009, 04:41:33 PM
Hardware Version : B1
Firmware : 1.08b
Software Version (Easy Search) : none

Hard Drive 1    SAMSUNG    HD103UJ    S13PJ1KQ212806    1000 G
Hard Drive 2    SAMSUNG    HD103UJ    S13PJ1KQ212804    1000 G

RAID1

OS : Windows XP Professional
Browser :  Firefox 3.0.10

Background: Power failed in our residence due to storm.  DNS-323 was restarted approx. 24hrs after power failure situation occurred. System apparently restarted ok.  Drives were not in "Degraded" status (hallelujah!!)

Problem Type :in IE explorer: Login (Applications) ->clicked on Bittorrent: at this point the 'Downloads" window appears shaded (greyed out) and message pops up "Connection to server failed." with "Retry" button.  Clicking on "Retry" button does nothing.

In FireFox I can login to the Bittorrent section and select a torrent to download, but the "Add" button does nothing.

Solution found!

Previously, I would get the "Connection to server failed" occasionally, but it was never a showstopper, like the condition I described above.

I tried stopping the service on the "Configuration" side, then re-starting with no success.

I then deleted the client, then re-installed.  It worked after that.  It showed the previously downloaded movies that were in the "Completed" folder and still had the torrents in the "Torrents" folder.  I stopped and deleted them.  All is now good again.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a UPS just for this NAS.

How do you delete the BT client?  When I see it in the Network Access List on the configuration side, it doesn't give me the option to delete or modify?

...I am using firmware 1.07.

1.08 install of the BT client is different from 1.07. In 1.08 you add the client from the Add-Ons section which provides a delete "trashcan" icon to remove the application.
