Defrag DNS-323?
« on: May 24, 2009, 08:59:11 PM »

I use my D-Link DNS-323 solely for storing backups created by the ShadowProtect backup program.  This program creates frequent incremental backups, which are "collapsed" daily into larger files for longer term storage.  Such repeated creation, merging, and deletion of files can cause fragmented disks.

I'm not familiar with the operating and file systems used by the DNS-323.  Is there a defrag process to keep the DNS disks from becoming overly fragmented?  Since I'm only using the DNS for backups I'm not overly concerned about disk efficiency, but an occasional cleanup might still make sense.

That's not to say that it doesn't get fragmented.... Just not as bad as FAT and NTFS..
