Title: Dir-3040 parental control
Post by: Syphen on January 17, 2020, 01:48:36 AM
Hi,

I set a parental control schedule on a device and save it.
When i verify the day after, the schedule is missing and the parental control has been disabled.
I don't know why but i got this same problem for multiple type of devices (workstation, portable phone, tablet, iot devices, etc).

Thanks for your support.

What browser are you using to set the configuration?
Does it happen with a different browser, try IE11, FireFox or Opera.

Hi.

I got the latest firmware installed.

I tried with edge and chrome also with the android app and i got the same problem.
Its like the router lose his settings for the parental control.

I do not see this issue in the global ticket database. I would say downgrade the firmware to see if the issue is there but 1.02 is the only firmware I see for this model.

The US is bringing this router in next month so I will see if there are any samples available to test. You may want to contact tech support in your country to report the issue.

Hi,

I try to manually put the 1.02 on it and i got the same problem.

I try to make another schedule to replace the other and another strange thing append.
When i set the schedule of some of the device, im logged out from the portal... I dont know why... That seems that the router hook up or something like this.

I've asked someone from Canada to look into this. Not sure if I'll get any response back. I would make contact with the Canada support office and refer them to this post thread. I'll have the USA office look into this as well.

There is a new firmware (1.10) that will be released probably 1st week in February to fix several issues. Definitely contact the Canadian office to report the issue.

Hello Syphen,

I have not heard of this issue. I would advise contacting our technical support at 1-800-361-5265. Other contact options are available at http://support.dlink.ca/DIR-3040. A technician will be able to take a closer look at your settings and configuration to determine why the parental control settings are disabling.

Keep in touch with D-Link support there. They should be able to help you and also test for this as well. Yes, ask about an RMA as well.

Hi,

After some days after the factory reset, the problem is Still there.

The support tell me that the parental control if attached on a device in the blocked period, the settings will be only active a day after.

But my problem is after a day all the schedule is detached from the decices.

After this reply from support, i decided to replug my old linksys router that the parental control worked fine and not with a delay of one day.

I will keep you in touch if the support find something in her labs.

I made some others tests with it.

I reconnect the router stand alone with only 4 devices and with dictinct schedule.

I got the same problem.

Also, i got a flir gun (thermal imaging device) and the router with only 4 devices run very hot just like 50celsius... I check my old router and he runs at 35c with all the devices.

I suspect that this device is faulty or is this product is not well designed.

Im waiting a return from dlink canada support but its very slow and no return from her since monday from the past week...

Since D-Link's engineers/vendor are in China, they have been closed due to coronavirus so D-Link Canada may not have heard back from the product group. They are cleared to go back to work on Feb 10th.

Got no return from dlink canada support...

Im waiting but a little bit pissed of this situation.

I buy a new router to have better service for wifi device than my old linksys router but got to unplug the new dlink because of this issue and also he got instability and random reboot issue that make crash my voip devices.

With all that's happening in china with this virus thing running around. This seems to have delayed operations and progress over there. Support maybe waiting on code development that's done over there. Thus having this long delay.

I've passed this on to support for review. Have you asked about an RMA?

If you kept in touch with support, after troubleshooting has been exhausted, you should be eligible for an RMA. Ask them about it. Call in and use your case #.

I finally got a unit. Can you tell me how you set up your schedule?  Did you try the WiFi app and/or browser?

I used the app. Created a profile and added my phone. I created a schedule (mon - fri 6am to 4pm). When I saved it, it turned on parental control on my phone under Clients. I will see if it is still there tomorrow.

I wonder if the client disconnects for a certain amount of time and then reconnects it turns it off/disabled it.

Seems like the app kept the schedule/parental control enabled. I will test through the web UI.
