DIR-330 won't reset
« on: November 07, 2011, 07:41:03 AM »

My power "flickered" yesterday and since then my DIR-330 has been acting like a "hub" instead of a DIR-330.  Basically, the computer attached to it gets an IP address directly from the cable modem instead of an IP on my local 192.168.20.x network.  Other computers get no access at all.  I've tried resetting several different ways:

holding the reset button in for 30 seconds while the power is connected and releasing it
holding the reset button in for 30 seconds while the power is not connected and releasing it
holding the reset button in for 30 seconds while the power is not connected, connecting the power and
then releasing the reset button
holding the reset button in for 30 seconds while the power is not connected, connecting the power,
holding the reset button for another 30 seconds and then releasing it
holding the reset button in for 30 seconds while the power is connected, disconnecting the power, holding the reset button for another 30 seconds, connecting the power, waiting another 30 seconds and then releasing the reset button

... the router never seems to go through its "reboot" sequence and I'm still unable to access the router at 192.168.0.1.  My PC is configured with a static IP of 192.168.0.100, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.  The light on the DIR-330 indicates that the PC is connected, and the PC's network interface light agrees.  However, the "status" LED on the DIR-330 does not turn on at all.  I'm afraid this thing is now a (very lightweight) brick.  Does anyone have any other resetting tricks I can try?

Is the PC's IP address you have set up for it, On the PC or the router. It's preferred to set the reserved IP address on the router and use Auto Obtain on the PC. How long have you had this unit?

I purchased the unit in February 2009.  Before this issue occurred, the PC was using DHCP to get an IP address (usually it was 192.168.20.100, as expected).  According to the documentation, after a "reset" the router should be using an IP of 192.168.0.1.  The connected PC does not get an IP address from the DIR-330 anymore, so I forced the PC to be on the 192.168.0.* subnet.  I also tried it with my old 192.168.20.* subnet.  In all cases I am unable to connect to the DIR-330's management interface, which is why I'm trying to reset it.

Have you swapped cables between router and PC?
Can you test with a different PC to be sure?
Yes, after holding the back button on the router, the default IP address for the router will be 192.168.0.1.
Try a different browser as well to test.

Keep us posted.

I don't know if you keep configuration backups. I've had several problems that have been resolved within a half hour just by Maintenance -> System -> Restore To Factory Default Settings... Then "Load Settings From Local Hard Drive". Routers go ape from time-to-time. I have three routers, Apple, D-Link and Netgear... all have had to be reloaded at least once in two years. I don't complain since I keep configuration copies at all times. BUT you have to keep a configuration copy in order to "Load Settings From Local Hard Drive".

I've tried different PCs, browsers, cables and ports on the router.  I'd attempt to use a saved configuration, but, like I said, the thing won't even reset to factory settings.  It doesn't go through the reset sequence no matter how long I hold the reset button down.

I would probably return the unit to place of purchase or RMA it.
