30Mbps transfer
« on: April 05, 2014, 01:36:51 PM »

I have no idea if anyone will even see this post, but I have blown the dust off a DWA-130 Rev. A1 that I found buried in my office.
I plugged it into my 8.1 Pro 64b system to see what would happen and surprisingly it works. However, even though windows reports a 300Mbps connection to my EA4500 when I run speedtest.net I can't even hit 30Mbps.
I then found a Netgear WNA1100 in the same heap of stuff so I plugged it in to compare. The installation was decidedly more involved, but eventually it also worked. Windows reported a 72Mbps connection to my EA4500, and then I maxed out my 50Mbps ISP on speedtest o.O
So I put the DWA-130 back in and bam, dropped to 30Mbps again ... anyone have any idea why this would be?
The router is about 30 inches away from my usb port, so I don't imagine it's a distance issue :-/

For the record, the WNA1100 is a N150 usb adapter.
I assumed the DWA-130 was a N300 device (given that Window$ showed it connected at that speed, although the D-Link product page for it doesn't actually provide that information. According to this page http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DWA-130-PB-R
it is actually a N150 adapter
Also just to clarify, both units are being plugged into the exact same USB2.0 port on the computer. Only one of them is installed at any given time. When I test them, I have the Gb LAN adapter disabled.

Kind of hard to compare apples to oranges since HW maybe different between the DWA and the NG adapters and your non-D-link host router. The 130 is an older model adapter depending on which Rev version you have...

The 300N is a combination of connections between the adapter and the main host router. 150 Up and 150 Down.

Depending on how the main host router is set up, anything could be effecting how the DWA is operating. We don't recommend speed testing on wireless as there are many variables that can effect wireless speeds and can give false or inaccurate results. Wired LAN testing is recommended.

If the DWA is working for general purposes, I would presume the DWA is good.

Refer to official D-Link web site for spec and information regarding the DWA. I presume the 3rd party web site is incorrect and is marketing information. If it was 150N then it would be 75 UP and 75 Down.
