I am searching for clues to solve a problem I have with a computer that slowly lose LAN speed while the others are fine. I did not have this problem with my previous router.
I have several computers connected to my DIR-890L and noted how one of them, my main, lose speed over time, until its extremely slow. Restarting the LAN adapter restores the speed temporarily.
Here is an example of this. DALLAS and LORD were restarted at the same time yesterday. Both computers are speedtested towards the same wireless computer (HelikopterEP121). Note how Dallas records an extreme upload speed and a slow download speed until restarted. LORD on the other hand is barely affected at all by the restart. Note that between eachother both computers report close to 1000Mbps after restarting the adapters when I test the LAN speed between them, but prior to restart DALLAS is extremely slow.

These all these connected to the back of the router?
Try using a Gb external network switch?
Try swapping out LAN cables with the PCs to see if problem follows or stays. Use CAT6 patch cables.
What is the Mfr and model if the NIC in each PC? All the same or different?
PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
- Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
- Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
- Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.
Try swapping NICs.

The firmware is 1.10 and I am located in Sweden.
DALLAS, which is the offending computer, have the latest drivers for its adapter.
DALLAS and LORD are directly attached to the back of the router with cables.
The cable to DALLAS was a CAT5e while the cable to LORD was a CAT6. I have replaced the cable to DALLAS with a CAT6 cable.
DALLAS: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A1&SUBSYS_85C41043&REV_00 (Asus Z97-Pro Motherboard)
LORD: PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_4364&SUBSYS_81F81043&REV_12 (Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard)
I have difficulties finding applications that prey on my bandwidth, but no download software were being used.
I do not use virus checkers a the moment and I will test with Firewall shut off.
I have a Gb Switch connected to the Router, but I use this for 2ndary devices such as a playstation, a steam link and a raspberry Pi. Next time I see a slowdown I will disconnect these to see if one of them are sucking stuff from my main without my awareness.

What is the Mfr and model if the LAN adapter?
Also give v1.12 FW a try if needed. You can also connect another Gb switch to the router as well for testing.

According to ASUS: Z97-Pro uses a "Intel® I218V, Dual interconnect between the Integrated Media Access Controller (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY)
Gigabit Intel® LAN Connection- 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) appliance".

I moved to bed and the computer were on during the night as usual. The next day DALLAS were down to 58Mbps up and 24.61 down. A few hours later downspeed were 51 and up 13.6. Something slowly corrodes the bandwidth of this computer to the router.

Can you test the pc in safe mode w networking enabled?

It is difficult to do since the corrosion takes a day and DALLAS is my main.

I have a Gigabit network Switch but I am not familiar with Switch functionality. Could you tell me how its supposed to help and how to connect it to my router? I have seven wired devices in my network and half of those are usually turned off and not in use. They are 1. My Main (Dallas) 2. My server (Lord) 3. An older computer I use for idling games. 4. An older laptop for the same use. 5. A Raspberry Pi used for movies (usually off). 6. A Steam Link (usually off). 7. A Playstation 3 (usually off). Is it enough that I put everything into the Switch with a cable between the Switch and the Router? Are there any of my computers that is better connected to the Router than the Switch?

What Mfr and model # is this switch? Most generic switches are just plug in play and there's no configuration needed. Smart switches can do more and are for more advanced networking environments.

Yes.
Are there any of my computers that is better connected to the Router than the Switch? Depending, if you have any wired devices that need more internet or router management priority, you can directly connect them to the router instead of the switch. I have my Xbox game console wired to the back of mine. Along with my primary 24 port Gb switch. Then everything else daisy chained off of that.

Even though the issues seemed to happen after I upgraded to DIR-890L the issue indeed seems to be the I218-V NIC on the Asus Z97-Pro Motherboard.
When I started out I used the latest version of the driver available from Microsoft (downloaded automatically through Windows 10). I had made sure repeatedly that I used the latest driver, and even tried the older official driver from ASUS for the Z97-Pro Motherboard (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97PRO/HelpDesk_Download/), which is older than the one provided by Windows 10.
After digging deeper there was a later driver directly from Intels website v21.1 (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25016/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10?product=71305).
After switching to this driver speeds are stable and have stayed stable for 2 days.

Thanks for the link. The Intel updater is a piece of junk and reports wrong versions, and can't install newer versions half the time.

Id install a different NIC, maybe a broadcom based one.

I can confirm this fix in my case. When I switched to this router, my download speed dropped from 170 to 6.
I have that intel 1218-V NIC and was using the standard microsoft driver.
I switched to the latest intel driver and speed problem went away.

Glad you found the fix. usually MS standard drivers are not as good as OEM native drivers.
