What app should I use?
« on: February 14, 2018, 02:34:17 AM »

I'm a bit confused when it comes to which app is suitable depending on what hardware you are using. There are so many different apps in the app store...

I need to manage my router (DIR-868L) and cameras (DCS-930LB1, DCS-932LB1, DCS-930L, D-Link DCS-8000LH, DCS-5222LB1) locally and remotely and have just installed the MyDlink app on my iPhone but for obvious reasons I prefer using the iPad. But the MyDlink app doesn't seem to be available for the iPad? And what about the MyDlink+ and MyDlink Lite?

Thanks.

The mydlink Lite app is probably the best to use right now if you want to manage your router. If not, then use the mydlink app. I find push notifications are more consistent.  Note if you have updated the 8000LH to firmware v2.00 or higher, it no longer will work in mydlink Lite.

The mydlink app will offer cloud recording for the 8000LH and future cameras (coming out in the next several months). Unfortunately mydlink routers are not compatible with this app.

I know the mydlink app will work on an ipad but it hasn't been optimized for it yet so it doesn't fit right. Try it out but do not update the firmware on the 8000 just in case.

The mydlink + is just a paid version of Lite for tablets.

The mydlink app is basically replacing the mydlink Lite and mydlink Home apps.

You can always enabled remote management on the 868L router and log in to it's UI using the Public IP address it gets from your ISP service in a web browser as another option for remote management needs.

OK. So if I understand it right D-Link will eventually develop a dedicated iPad/tablet app?

One can only dream.... ;D

They are both free so try them out to see which one you like, uninstall the one you don't. Just make sure you do not update the firmware on the 8000 through the mydlink app or it will kill the ability to use on mydlink lite.

I know techs have sent their concerns about the mydlink app on tablets so HOPEFULLY they will optimize it for tablets/iPad.
