Title: 2310L freezes up & won't record when using POE
Post by: CameraMax on February 20, 2017, 11:26:07 AM
First post, apologies if I leave something out.

Camera is a DCS-2310L, Hardware version A, Firmware version 1.08.03

I cannot get the camera to stay online when using only POE.  I first tried a POE injector, and it would run for a few hours and then freeze up.  I bought a more expensive TP-Link POE switch, no change.  I have the camera set to continuous loop record to the internal SD card.  I tried different SD cards, factory reset, re-flash the firmware, different ethernet cables (none longer that eight feet).   Called tech support, got a warranty replacement, same problem.

A few days ago I tried using the plug-in power supple vice POE, and the camera seems to be working now.  It ran for over 24 hours without freezing up or dropping off line.  SD card is out at the moment, I will try re-installing that if the camera behaves for a few days.

If the fix is to not use POE but only use the power adapter, then I guess I'll live with that for now.  Rather disappointed, I wanted to add more cameras further away from my building.

Is anyone else having luck with this model only using POE for power, and set for continuous record to SD card?  How about setup for continuous record to a DNR-202L?

Any status on this?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Is this the only camera your using or are there any others?

I'm located in the southeast, so occasional temperatures below freezing, but not too often.

The main router is a Pace model 5268AC.

I'm using a couple of D-Link Powerline adapters in between the camera and the main router.

Looks like this:
Camera
[ethernet to]
Netgear GS308P 8-port router
[ethernet to]
D-line Powerline adapter model AV500
[over home electrical system to]
D-link Powerline adapter model AV500
[ethernet to]
Pace 5268AC router

Now that we've had warmer weather (overnight lows in the 50s) the camera has been working fine.  I've still got it set up with power via the adapter (not using POE).

I've got several other D-link cameras set up as well, mostly other models but I've also been running the original 2310 set up inside the building to compare the two, and it has been stable.  It is connected to the same Netgear router, going through the powerline adapters back to the main router.

What was the length of the ethernet with the PoE only?

Assuming there isn't a glitch between all your conversions - I'm not sure of all power requirements required - but it sounds like when using SD card and doing other things - it might be getting overloaded.  Turn off any wireless connection setups?

If you can stream the camera over PoE without writing to SD card and no locking up - the DNR 202L should be fine.

The length of the POE ethernet was 6-8 feet.

This camera doesn't have WiFi radio / capability only ethernet.

I've got a DNR 202L that isn't working at all, bought it last fall and added it, played with it for a couple days and then ran out of time.  I really need to get that up and running.

Wondering if the power line adapters could be having an impact maybe.
