How to reduce data stream from DCS-993L
« on: April 27, 2014, 11:39:23 AM »

When I'm streaming video and some are watching the video from another IP, the camera is eating my available data from the ISP hosting my account where the camera is connected. I tried to reduce the quality with lover bit and frame rate in the setup menu. The preview then showed a degraded picture, but that did not affect what I streamed, perfect picture. I make the stream available for my friends, so if one of them log into the camera (off course not as an admin) and leave it streaming, he is going to use all the data I pay for to my ISP in a short time. So, what am I doing wrong?

You can reduce the bandwidth substantially if you leave the DCS-933L in Night Mode. The black and white stream doesn't use as much throughput as color.

Not a good idea. I have the camera installed in the front window of my slow going leisure boat to show my friends the beautiful Norwegian coast i color.

Many routers have Traffic Control settings that would allow you to limit the bandwidth available to the camera.

The router is a R90 mobile broadband router for the 450MHz band, and the manual for the router is found at my homepage trudelutt.com at
http://trudelutt.com/manuals/User_Manual_R90.pdf My available amount of data is 8GB a month.

LOL. I forgot that I previously helped troubleshoot your reserved IP issue a while back. I already had the manual saved to my documentation folder. Unfortunately, it looks like this router is pretty rudimentary. I don't see any options for bandwidth throttling.  :-\

Neither do I. I think my friends have to be satisfied with single snapshots every 2. minute here: http://trudelutt.com/cam For the moment just a static picture from home not being updated.
