Accessing DNS-323 Drive Directly from WinXP
« on: December 23, 2010, 06:35:40 AM »

Hi guru's
I could use a little help. I've got a 323 with 1.09 (no mods yet) and 2TB samsung drives formatted to EXT3 setup as independent drives.
I have used it as both a FTP server and a media server with no problems.
I want to convert a large volume of media files on one of the drives with imgburn and, for speed reasons, I would like to do it by taking the drive out and using sata-usb to a winXP machine (which I've done).
I've installed both explore2fs and ext2ifs and can see the drives but no files/folders.
I read this post:
Title: Re: Is there a way to access the DNS 323 hard drive on your PC?

....If the version on the DNS-323 is 1.07 (or lower), you should be able to use EXT2IFS to view the contents of the file system on your workstation.

Is my problem related to firmware 1.09? If so, what are my best options here?
Cheers

You might have more like with http://www.ext2fsd.com/ the other one doesn't work for me in Windows 7. Assign a drive letter to the largest partition and make sure the program/service is started

Thanks. Tonight, I'll make sure the processes that I installed are running. If so, then I'll try the driver that you suggested. I'll give an update tonight.

I reiterate, guru, oh, guru....
Thank you for your great advice. I ended up uninstalling the other drivers and installing the ext2fsd driver per your suggestion. I am in business! Many thanks!
