Title: Facing Error - 192.168.100.1
Post by: rafaelsolano on December 24, 2018, 02:53:50 AM
Hi, my router D-link DIR-655 is connected to a cable modem.  The Router IP Address is "192.168.0.1".

The modem has a fixed IP address  "192.168.100.1"  to access its  status page/setup from LAN. So I am able to assess the modem  status page from my local computer Web browser when typing  "192.168.100.1".

When I want to set up Port Forwarding (or Virtual Server) with local IP address "192.168.100.1" and try to Save, I get an error message "invalid host ip address".

I guess the router only accepts/saves   addresses  192.168.0.x.

How to overcome this restriction?

I am not sure about this but I think this, but I think a home office network might use addresses in the range of 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.100.20. The address "192.168.100.1" is out of the network's range and would be an invalid address. If still, you can't figure it out then this guide https://routerlogin.onl/192-168-100-1/ (https://routerlogin.onl/192-168-100-1/) might help you out.

If your router is 192.168.0.1, your local IP range is 192.168.0.xxx.

If your modem a router also or just a modem? If it is just a modem what kind of port forwarding are you trying to do?

Is the WAN IP address on the dlink router 192.168.xx.xx? or a public IP address?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

You don't need to set up any Port Forwarding or Virtual Services with the ISP modem. 192.168.100.1 is the log in page for most cable modems for the modems management page only. Nothing else is at this address. You can't configure this IP address on the WAN side of the DIR router.
