DSM-520 "Can't open file"

Help

After downloading a movie, then playing it on the the DSM-520, anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes a screen comes up that says "Unable to open file" and takes me back to the menu.  You can restart and sometimes go a little longer or a little sooner before it happens again.  I can't get to the end of a movie.  What gives?

The volume is also very low.

What firmware version are you using?

What kind of file is it? (.ts, .mpg, etc.)

How large is it?

Where is the file stored?  PC?  Hard Drive?  USB?

If the file is stored on a PC is the DSM-520 wired or wireless?

There is a volume control on the DSM-520.  Is it turned all the way up?

I have had success with .avi files using a wired connection and using D-Link's Media Server 1.10.  I don't recall ever using any .avi files at 800 meg so I don't know if there is an issue.  I have been able to play successfully .ts files at 8 gig so the filesize shouldn't matter.

Couple of things to try...

1.  Try a wired connection

2.  Use a thumb drive with the file you are having a problem with.

3.  Verify that you are in analog for the volume issue in the audio/video settings.

Have you had trouble with other movies of this type?

My kids have the same problem sometimes. It might be a poor signal. How many walls are in between the wireless router and your DSM-520? I had to move things around a little and it seemed to help (not completely) with connection issues.
