Title: DSM 520 Dvd Menu Support?
Post by: tccbs on July 12, 2008, 06:13:00 PM
Hello. Does anyone know if the 520 is EVER going to be able to support dvd style menus? I had read in another post where someone claiming to be a DLink software tech said they were working on the 520 to accept the menus from ripped dvd's/vob files. Right now, my 520 is kind of all over the place unless I compress the movie and link it all together. Also, had to remove all but the english audio track to keep the movie from switching languages periodically.... ???

yea any idea when this will be available because  I now have seen other no name vendors already able to stream VOB files with menu's ability. that would be a nice feature to add on the next firmware update ;D

I do not believe there are any media server devices currently able to do this. I believe it has not been implemented due to the way media streams from the media server as it streams a single file via UPnP AV media server and would take a more complex system to support DVD menus. I am very sorry but I do not know of any plans for our DSM series media servers to support this feature currently.

Thank you very much for clarifying that. Seemed that no one anywhere could ever give me a definative answer.

First, there are a number of servers that do support menus.  The Netgear EVA 8000 and a few others do.  Second, someone who works for the developers of the software that DLink uses was on the AVS forum and has stated that they were working on this feature for a future release.  That statement has to be 6 months old now though.  Furthermore, given the extremely slow release of firmware and software updates from DLink, my guess is that it won't come out before next year and may not support the DSM-520.
