Time machine compatibility

The time machine compatibility (as advertised for this box) is broken for Mac OSX 10.6 and 10.7 due to an updated AFP in these OSX releases. Is there work in progress to correct this? The newest betas of netatalk support the correct feature set but compiling/installing it on the DNS 325 is out of league. Has anyone heard of work arounds?
