HOW CAN CONSUMERS BE SURE THAT STREAMBOOST™ ISN'T VIOLATING THEIR PRIVACY BY MONITORING THEIR NETWORK TRAFFIC?

We take consumer privacy very seriously at Qualcomm Atheros. Here are the steps we take to ensure that consumer privacy is protected:

  • As millions of packets travel across your network, StreamBoost™-powered routers only capture a few hundred packets at the initiation of an unknown stream and sent to the StreamBoost™ cloud services.
  • Data is sent to the StreamBoost™ cloud service without any identifying information. We can’t tell who sent the data, where it came from, or what’s inside the packet in most cases.
  • Since the purpose for the data capture is for stream analysis only, no information is gathered that for the purpose of identifying the data content. For example, in a Netflix stream data capture, we can determine that the stream is from Netflix and the resolution of the video, but not what movie is playing. We also capture statistics of the connection, like duration, bandwidth consumption and oversubscription conditions, to help determine the quality of the connection.
  • The user is only person that knows what devices are connected and what traffic is coming through their router at any time.
