Problem with a DNR-326 nas under GNU/Linux
« on: April 08, 2014, 03:58:02 PM »

Hello, this is a copy/paste message initially published elsewhere http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58815.0 in the forum, but following a suggestion of the moderator I am reposting it here :

-----
Hello,

as stated in the topic, I would need some information about GNU/Linux support. Currently I am able to setup camera recordings, but cannot visualize and playback the files from the web interface which is pretty disturbing.

I can also turn-on the NFS server and get access to files, but it seems that they are written in some kind of proprietary format.

Just upgraded the firmware and still cannot access to playback and visualize with firefox. Didn't try with chrome. [Edit: I just tried with Chrome under Linux and there is a error message : SEVERE: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://192.168.X.X/web/nvr/unixNuSDK.jar: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://192.168.X.X/web/nvr/unixNuSDK.jar

Indeed when I connect on the NAS and try to find this file, there is no such. Instead there is macNuSDK.jar and win32NuSDK.jar. So thus to say there is no even a small chance for the camera to work under GNU/Linux.]

Any help would be welcomed.

Best regards

Hello,

I just brought a Dlink DNR-322L to record from my Dlink DCS-7010L cameras and found the same issue when viewing it from any of my computers, all of which run Linux.

Did you manage to ever find a solution to this? Has Dlink been working on a patch so that us Linux users could enjoy the product we brought? Or should I just return the unit and get a refund now and save my time?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

After my first call at the initial level of support I was on the phone for 1hr in which we went through the following

      Advise given
      - Check that you have the latest Java version on my Linux machine = I do, Oracle version 8
      - Reset the device by holding the reset button for 10seconds = done
      - Test in on a Windows system to install the Wizard.
      - Setup .NET Framework 2.0 on my Windows XP
      - Run the setup wizard on MS Windows XP, cannot find it so reset the device again
      - Upgraded to Level 2.
      - Note: Looks like the Windows/Mac Wizard is the only way to link the device to mydlink

If I Telnet & have a look around I've found where the missing file should be located and found that there is a win32NuSDK.jar there but no unitNuSDK.jar. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to have a unixNuSDK.jar there, java is multi-OS.

    /usr/local/modules/web/pages/nvr

The system is read-only so making any changes is impossible and if I go any further down this path I would be voiding my warranty.

I cannot view mydlink either, I get a Java error and when clicking on the error it opens up the java console.

Got my reply from Dlink Level 2 support today;

I am sorry to tell you that Linux OS is not supported for this device.

Which is a pity. The Dlink DNR-322L uses linux as it's operating system and the interface is programmed in Java (OS independent language) It's like they have gone out of their way to make it incompatible.

So if you run linux like me, don't buy the DNR-322L is the moral of the story.

I presume D-Link doesn't go out of there way to exclude Linux users. Rather based on the market of Linux users and weather or not they can invest in a market that maybe limited in native users. The correct moral of this story would be that users need to research and get information before they buy any product to make sure it's fully supported and works for there environments. It's the users responsibility to check and ask questions before they buy something which would avoid problems like this.  ::)
