Degraded Array
« on: December 12, 2008, 10:04:36 AM »

Ok, I just saw the right light blinking only on my nas. I go to the status and see that the RAID is degraded. However, the light on the left side is not purple like it should be. The drive was failing before until I did repairs on it. Now I guess it finally gave out on me. I just need to know how to check in fact that the drive is completely unusable? Normally when it says Degraded, I should see the purple light. It's still blue.

the best tool for checking drives is spinrite from www.grc.com in fact it can even repair bad portions of a drive but depending on your raid config you may need to pull the drive from the box and attach it to another computer to be scanned and spinrite needs direct access to the drive.

check the faq for the raid section http://www.grc.com/sr/faq.htm

Please try firmware 1.06 there is not an option to manual rebuild your RAID1 array if it becomes degraded.
