Uplink DGS-1224T to another switch
« on: June 16, 2012, 11:01:05 PM »

I'm currently extending our server room with a second server room in a different building. Between the two rooms, I have cat5e installed between the two buildings, and the distance between the two server rooms is less than 60 meter.

On the first server room, I have installed:
- 1 x D-Link DES-1024R
- 1 x D-Link DGS-1224T
- 1 x patch panel

On the second server room, I have installed:
- 1 x Netgear GS724T-300EUS
- 1 x patch panel

I would like to connect the Netgear through the two patch panels with the D-Link DGS-1224T, but this is not working. When I connect the Netgear through the two patch panels with the D-Link DES-1024R, I have a connection. But because the DES-1024 is not a Gigabit switch, I would prefer to uplink the DGS-1224.

What am I doing wrong?

Would it be better to uplink with fiber? If so, which cable and which modules should be bought? Would fiber not be too expensive for our purposes?

Regards

Ivan

Dear Ivan,

Did you test the cable? It should work without any config, unless you have VLAN's.
