Possible to use it without internal HDD? just USB drive
« on: June 05, 2011, 10:57:43 PM »

I'm checking DNS-320 out as an option for sharing my storage..

i'd like to know if it can be use without any internal hdd.. just one external usb hdd.. can i perform all the stuff exactly the same i do if i were to have internal hdd... what issue that i might run into?

reason: i currently have a 1tb usb drive.. however i want to share this drive accross the network.. and doesn't have budget to buy another hdd yet.. so i was thinking if i can just use this as host to my usb drive..

or is it overkill to use this for just that?

Yes it's possible and a bit overkill. The big limitation would be that if the drive is formatted NTFS it would be read-only. If you plan on putting drives in eventually then it's a good investment.
