Title: Feed goes black on DNR but not otherwise?
Post by: Sean2a on January 02, 2016, 09:01:33 AM
hello I apologize if this has already been asked but I did a brief Google search and didn't find anything. I recently purchased DNR-202l to go along with my 18 month old dcs933l and 12 ,moth old dcs 931l cameras. I spent literally all day yesterday setting it up and trying to figure out how to set up motion triggered recording between the devices.

Anyway one of the problems I was having and apparently still having is that the feed for my DNR goes out on the 933l. It was fine for a little while- recorded a few events and everything. But then it just goes black. The odd thing is I can still see the live feed in the mydlink+ app just not the "view" app. I'm pretty sure those results are consistent on the web interfaces as well- although I try to avoid that due to the nightmarish time I had with browsers, bad certificates failed plugins etc.

Does anyone know what's going on? I've made sure to update firmware on both cameras - I want to say they're at 1.12?

I realized after posting this that the local ip address of one of the cameras had changed. SO the DNR wasn't looking for it in the right place and thus it wasn't showing up.  I'm not sure why the Camera app was able to locate it, unless it auto-scans. Anyway, I compared the settings of the two cameras and found the one that switched had port forwarding turned off. So I turned it on. I also reduced resolution to minimum and fps by half.  I have been having issues with my router "crashing" where it still shows I have a strong signal but my wifi speeds are excruciatingly slow/ if at all.

Anyway, my question is, why is the dlink camera killing my internet. I have verizion FIOS, and I've turned video quality way down. Do I need to turn port forwarding on. Both cameras are set to the same port by default, 80. Should I change that? I should also mention that after resetting it with the new settings, the opposite camera that had the issue last time had the issue. It began flashing red on the back and I can no longer access it at the ip address that was set for it. I'll check my router settings later to see if the ip switched again, but either way, something funky is going on.  Oh and both cameras are wifi connected by the way.

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool: 192.168.#.10 and .11  DHCP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58017.0)

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62395.0)

Thanks for the reply. I meant to post sooner... I set both cameras to static  a few days ago and have had no issues with the camera dying or killing the router.  I also set bitrate way down on both but I'm pretty sure the fact that their. Static solved my issue. Anything else and I'll assume I need a better internet plan  :o

Thanks again

Please post camera model for reference.

Glad it's working better now. Enjoy.  ;)
