I have DSR-250 rev A1 hardware and tried 'DSR-250_REVA_FIRMWARE_v3.11B101H' firmware and it does not work. When trying to update from FW v2.11 via the routers web page firmware update, I get an error which states I must use firmware for my router and it resets the router. I chose the 'DSR-250_A1_A2_A3_A4_FW3.11B101H_COMMON_WW' file. Is FW v2.11 the last version that works with DSR-250 hardware version A1?
In this message: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=72552.15
Greenbay42 mentions FW v3.11 was confirmed by a D-Link tech that it works with A1 hardware. Not sure how to proceed.

See if there is an Intermediate file that has to be applied first....
ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DSR-250/REVA/DSR-250_REVA_RELEASE_NOTES_v3.11B101H_EN.pdf (ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DSR-250/REVA/DSR-250_REVA_RELEASE_NOTES_v3.11B101H_EN.pdf)
I would use IE11 or FF browser to do the FW update. Don't use Chrome.

Thanks much for your reply.
There is an intermediate file but PDF states support only for v A2 hardware. Yet the info in this
message: "http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=72552.15" states it should work with A1 hardware using the common file. Confusing...I'll try the intermediate file.
Thanks.

Let us know if it works...

Does not work, guess I'm stuck with FW v 2.11.
-
Did you try the Console update process listed in the other link?
-
No but I'll give that a try. Do I need a real serial port or USB over serial or just plain Ethernet cable?
-
I would check the user manual. If it's a RS-232 port, then you'll need either a real or USB to RS-232 cable...

Thanks. All I have on the router is the Ethernet port, no serial port and I do not have the special Ethernet cable with e DB9 connector. Not sure why some FW versions can be burned via GUI and others require going into boot loader mode. Kind of wonky.
Not sure if I buy another newer DSR-250 from Amazon or Newegg if it'll have the newest hardware ver.

Ya I forgot, some don't have the 232 connector. Let me see if there is any more help.

Possibly the recovery mode may work. http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=72552.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=72552.0)
This thread will have instructions but I know it didn't work with this specific customer. I witnessed a tech here with 3.12 on a A1 unit but I did not see how he did it unfortunately (he is no longer with D-Link). I know it took him a while. D-Link headquarters has stated 3.x.x is not compatible with revision A1. 2.11 would be the latest version.
If all else fails, contact tech support 1 (877) 354-6555 (USA only) and see if they can help.

Thanks FurryNutz and GreenBay42 for all your help!
I have no choice but to stick with FW v 2.11.
I'll read through the release notes for all versions past 2.11 and see if there are any crucial security fixes I can't get which could affect me negatively, if so I'll just have to move on with a newer model.
Thanks again.
