router is disconnecting the connection.
« on: August 11, 2012, 05:30:13 PM »

this is the second time the router will disconnect and drop the connection. i have to manually reboot the device.

is it time for a new router?

or could it be there are too many devices connected to this router?

How many devices are connected at once? What FW is currently loaded?

HW:A1
FW:1.15

about 12 devices
4 wired and the rest are wireless.

802.11 Band : 2.4GHz
802.11 Mode : Mixed N and G
Enable Auto Channel Scan : CHECKED
Wireless Channel : auto
Transmission Rate : (Mbit/s) AUTO
Channel Width 20/40

with this new setup, the wireless does seem to improve now for some reason.
i was just curious why the router would go dead with the connection.

Any log entries when you notice this? DO you loose connection to the routers web page when this happens?
Any other wifi routers near by?

Need to see if your house phone or wireless ISP is causing the problem.

One other thing you might try, Turn OFF the wireless radio on the 4500 before the times you see the router reboot and run the 4500 just as a wired router. See if you notice anything.

this just happened again, five minutes ago

after the reboot i can only see this WARN message "Wireless schedule init"

it's possible this router needs a replacement now?

edit**
this started happening when i changed the WPA2 settings
Cipher Type :TKIP and AES

i'm going to switch it back to AES and see if it stops, i'll also set it back to 20Mhz width.

Do you have a wireless schedule enabled?

I don't think it's time for a replacement...not until you can figure out if your house phone or ISP is causing this. That house phone is 2.4Ghz and can be a cause of some interferences. Any chance you can move the router to a different location? You can use longer CAT6 cabling going from the ISP modem to the 4500. I have a 50ft between my ISP modem and host router at the moment.

You can try WISH however I don't thing that will help. Worth a try. Let us know how your other settings work out for you.

How many devices do you have online at one time?

Furry, I don't know if you mentioned this but he could try unchecking the box for "Enable Auto Channel Scan", then change his wireless channel to 11 (or any other channel then what it's on now), save settings, then when it reboots, re-check the box for "Enable Auto Channel Scan".

That cleared up some jumpy wireless adapter speeds on mine and now it's stable.
