Hello again everyone.

What a weird finding. Today I took my DIR-882 to a friend who has same ISP and same optical converter but he has 500Mbit connection. I have tried speedtest over 5G wifi at his place and got 480Mbit - did not change absolutely nothing at settings just connected the lan cable from optical converter to WAN port.

So I decided to lend his router DIR-878 and connected it at my place where I have same ISP same OC but has 1000Mbit connection and BAM same s***ty speed 240Mbit max over 5G wifi.

Oh gosh I have no idea what is going on, I have tried with my router really everything, change of cables, settings, firmware tried also change position of the router in the house to be sure that in that room there is no interference, but nothing

So my router at friends place is behaving as it should also his router is behaving the same ( both routers 470-480 Mbit over 5G )
But at my place both routers 240mbit max when ISP is providing 1000Mbit

My question is: is it somehow possible when ISP is feeding the router with high speed internet then it behaves faulty?
Or are there any settings in the router I should check which can cause such slow speed over 5G network? I am pretty sure now that it has nothing to do with 5G wifi settings as it works fine at his place.

P.S.: someone here at the forum mentioned to try higher channel 149-165 but I do not have that option in channel settings, but the DIR-878 of my friend has that option which is also weird right?

Thank you all for help and reading

What is the mfr and model# of the adapter in the work notebook?
If your still test with this same notebook adapter on the 882 and the 878 and show same bad speeds, then I would presume this adapter is the cause.

Again I have tested my 882 and its reaching near 900Mpbs with a wireless bridge.

@FurryNutz

I was not testing the speed with the notebook, maybe just once. So far I was testing mostly with my main PC with Intel-AC 9560
and to have accurate results today I have tested only with my phone Xiaomi Pocophone F1. And the results as my previous post at his place 470Mbit but at my place both routers 230-240mbit no more

Well if the 878 and 882 test out well at your friends place, this rules out the 882 router. The issue is up stream with the ISP or downstream with your devices your using.

Hello again,

Today I have tried local network transfer of big file to Ipad via my main PC connected to LAN and Ipad 7th gen connected to my 5G network and results are as expected: max speed 550Mbit or 68MB/s so where the hell is the problem? Should I RMA the router as it seems there is some kind of bug/bottleneck when 1Gbit internet connection from ISP is enabled?

When I am "feeding" the router with 500Mbit internet connection same ISP the router behaves as it should Wifi 5G speeds aroud 470Mbit
the moment I "feed" the router with 1000Mbit internet connection same ISP big problem Wifi 5G speeds aroud 230-240 Mbit :(

Thanks for help.

@FurryNutz

Sorry I just don't understand your statement.
I have ruled out the problem with ISP as DIR-882 is routing via LAN to my main PC normal speeds over 900Mbit and also I have ruled out my devices as in my latest post where you can see that my PC is sending via DIR-882 via 5G wifi network to Ipad file with speed over 550Mbit.

The only problem is when testing internet speed via DIR-882, DIR-878 wifi 5G where speed is HARD limited to 230Mbit download (for no reason) when connected to ISP with 1Gbit internet speed.

When both routers are connected to same ISP with 500Mbit internet speed, both routers behave normal no HARD limit over 5G wifi - download speeds 460Mbit

So it seems these two particular routers are unable to process 1Gbit internet speed and send it via 5G wifi - HARD limit, BUG or I don't know for what reason it does not work normally.

Today Iam going to try my device at another place where same ISP and also 1Gbit internet speed just out of curiosity and also I am going to buy another dual band fast router but another manufacturer then D-link and will see if behaves normally or same as D-link - then I will be 100% sure what is the issue and will let you know as this is really strange.

Thanks

Have you tried Disabling these:

1) DNS Relay
2) IPV4 Multicast Streams
3) IPV6 Multicast Streams

Also try,

1) WAN port speed set to 1000 mbps
2) IPV6 to local connectivity only.

Disable everything under Firewall.

Also if possible try changing the channel to 149. Works well on DIR-882.

The problem is following your location, not the routers. You tested 2 routers at another location and they got the speeds you want. When you took both routers to your location, the speeds dropped. It is not the router. It is something with your ISP connection and/or modem. Do you and the other location have the same modem? Have you tried resetting the modem or simple reboot?  Did you test the same wireless clients at the other location?

@sachb

Tried every single item you mentioned in your post except the try channel 149 as I can choose only 36,40,44,48. RESULT is the very same bad speed via 5G wifi so no change - regarding the 149 channel why don't I have it in the router selection list? Firmware? Location?

@GreenBay42

If you can please reread my previous posts for more details but I will try to sumarize all info here

My location: same ISP, same modem, 1Gbit connection
My router DIR-882 is working properly when sending big file from PC (LAN) to Ipad (5G WiFi) - speeds around 550Mbit - SO 5G WiFi is working correctly
My router DIR-882 is working properly when checking internet speed via SPEEDTEST main PC (LAN) - 900> Mbit - so no problem with modem or ISP
My router DIR-882 does not work properly when checking internet speed via SPEEDTEST via any device (Ipad 7th gen, pocophone f1, Iphone 8 Plus, main PC Intel ac wifi 9560) on 5G Wifi every time same exact result 230Mbit no more no less....

My friends location: same ISP, same modem, but 500Mbit connection
My router DIR-882 is working properly when sending big file from PC (LAN) to Ipad (5G WiFi) - speeds around 550Mbit - SO 5G WiFi is working correctly
My router DIR-882 is working properly when checking internet speed via SPEEDTEST via any device (Ipad 7th gen, pocophone f1, Iphone 8 Plus) on 5G Wifi every time around 470Mbit so all OK.

so from this it looks like problem when internet speed from ISP is 1000mbit then WAN to Wifi is bugged as it hard lock internet speed checked via Speedtest to 230Mbit no more no less every single time I try test.

So ISP modem is OK as WAN to LAN on DIR-882 results 900Mbit, yes both locations have same modem/optical converter, yes tried couple of times to reset the modem / optical converter and lastly yes tried all the time same wireless clients.

I am starting to lose my mind.

What are the connection rates you are seeing with your wireless adapter connected to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. SC disabled?
One test you can try is to find another router, same model or something different that has similar specs to the 882 and test it out at your location.

From my testing, at least with my 882, WAN to WLAN is working on a 1Gb ISP service:

Thanks for the summary. That helps after reading the entire thread at 4:30am not quite awake :)

That is very strange and does not make sense. I am not sure how the router can slow your wifi speed down at your location when Internet is ok but works in another location.

You mentioned you tested a 878 with same results. The 878 and 882 are same exact chipset so it would make sense the same thing is happening. If you know someone with a different brand or family router to test. It has to be some weird quirk with the router and probably the wireless bands being used.

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem or ONT/Fiber unit the DIR router is connected too?

It might be possible that your environment could be crowded, can you check using the wifi analyzer app if your environment is crowded?  Also did you try Installing latest Firmware from the US website to see if it unlocks channel 149 and above?

I had the issue using the lower band, and I resolved the issue using the upper band channels. I guess D-link is very sensitive to crowded environment.

Well if the 878 and 882 test out well at your friends place, this rules out the 882 router. The issue is up stream with the ISP or downstream with your devices your using.

I've tested it, and seem to be facing the same issue, the issue is definately with there but occurs only if it finds an interference. Probably to do with 5 ghz channels around or other interference.

But since OP mentioned that there are no channels around him, and I'm thinking it could be something to do with other interference. Can a Mobile tower or say Signal booster for mobile towers cause this issue?
