DIR-3040 and DAP-1610 Mesh issues
« on: May 18, 2020, 01:22:35 PM »

As the title states, I have a new DIR-3040 and a DAC-1610. I intended to set up the DAC as a mesh extender (not a regular extender config with a separate SSID). The D-Link Wi-Fi app does not list the DAP-1610 - only the DAP-1620 as a device i can set up. I attempted to set it up by selecting the DAP-1620 but the process failed - as expected.

I decided to to do it the old school way and set it up using the desktop web portal. I was able to login to the extender and using the setup wizard sync the SSID and password with my router. Everything went smoothly(confirmed connection between router and Ext). I do not see a duplicate SSID in my wifi scans and the device lights are all solid green. Which makes me think this is how a mesh works and all is well. Great.

Only problem now is, the router does not list the DAP on the devices page of the web portal. Nor is it appearing in the device list on the app. When connected wirelessly to my network I can connect to both devices' web portals without issue. The DAP shows a successful connection to the host router.

D-Link tech support had no solutions and has elevated this issue to a L2 agent who has yet to contact me. The rep I dealt with surmised it could be a GUI/Firmware bug.

This is my first foray into mesh networks so I'm still learning how they work and what to expect. I dont have the usage experience to recognize issues so I'm hoping someone here could provide some troubleshooting tips.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Is Smart Connect enabled on the DIR router?
What happens if you disable Smart Connect on the DIR router?

Hopefully the L2 can test this and get back to you. Keep in contact with D-Link support.

I recommend that you look into getting a DAP that meets the same wifi connetion rates as the DIR router.
The DAP-1610 only does the following:
Data Signal Rate • 2.4 GHz - • Up to 300 Mbps
• 5 GHz - • Up to 866 Mbps

While the DIR router handles the following:
Wi-Fi Data Rate • 2.4 GHz • Up to 400 Mbps
• 5 GHz • Up to 866 Mbps
• 2nd 5 GHz • Up to 1733 Mbps

I would check out the DAP-1620 or 1860:
