DWA-552 Issues
« on: August 28, 2012, 10:13:07 AM »

I recently purchased this network card, and I've been having many problems getting a good connection with it. When I installed it from the disc provided, I got the DWA-552 Wireless Manager software, which when I close it, it increases my connection, but does not stop the random connection drops I am getting, and still very slow connection speed.

I have tried installing the latest Atheros Drivers (http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/14833-latest-atheros-wlan-drivers-for-windows-7-and-vista-x86-x64/) which ended up leaving me with no connections available, and then removed those and tried installing the latest D-Link drivers (http://www.dlink.com/ca/en/home-solutions/connect/adapters/dwa-552-xtreme-n-desktop-pci-adapter) which again left me with no connections available and no DWA-552 Wireless Manager.

Could anybody help me with this problem?

I am running W7 64-Bit, and have a DIR-645 Router, on channel 11.

Link>Welcome!
What make and model is the HOST router?
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using on the host router? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.

What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

-My router is a D-Link DIR-645, Hardware version A1, Firmware 1.01.
-I am in Canada, Ontario.

-The router is using N, G and B at the moment, I can set it to N and G and see if it makes a difference.
-The channel width is already set at 20/40Mhz Auto.
-The router is set to channel 11, and from looking at the Wireless Manager the only other router it picks up is on channel 6, but I believe there one more channel 11 in my neighbourhood which isnt showing at the moment.
-My security mode is WPA/Personal.

The only problem I need help with is not being able to find networks after installing the most recent drivers.

I would try to install with out any 3rd party security software running or enabled and see if this helps.

I have disabled security software and am getting the same issue with not being able to find networks with any recent drivers installed, and the router is now set to N/G.

Here is a speedtest result that I just took at 1:09AM while no other computers are on in the house except for mine:

I used to have an old Linksys G card that would give me 5Mbps compared to this card which barely ever goes over 1.

Finally got the D-Link 1.70 drivers to work, and my download speed actually decreased.

If I can't get this card to work soon, I'm done with D-Link. Even tried calling tech support and I couldn't even understand the heavily accented Indian woman, nor could she help me with my problem.

Might aswell close this thread now. Called support one last time, and the guy couldn't even help, said just to get a new network card, so I placed an order on an Amped Wireless N card. Don't want to deal with this anymore.
