Slow connection with DWA-552
« on: October 29, 2011, 01:56:28 AM »

Hello,

I'm using a DWA-552 for my main computer and I cannot manage to get high speed same way as for the other computer I have in the house (2 laptop).

The driver I have installed is Atheros 8.0.0.332.  I'm with Windows 7 family edition.

I'm not a specialist but could definitely any solution that could help speeding up our connection. The connection signal never go higher than 3 bars on 5 and mainly always at 2.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Fred,

Change the Router's Wireless Channel to Channel 11 for DIR-655 router. Don't use Auto Channel selection. Also you haven't mentioned 32-bit or 64-Bit Windows 7?

Hei,

It's 64 bits.

Also another issue I have is that I constantly lose the connection to the router on my main computer using the DWA-552 card.

And with 2 other laptops I have and the IPad, I never lose connection, using the same router.

I really could use some help.

Thanks.

Hi Frederic,

My DWA-552 is running fine on Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3 and when I tested on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit no Service Pack it worked also just fine. but that's me and I used D-Link Drivers 1.60 currently installed in XP. When recording TV Programs, I just disable the Adapter.

Download both the 1.60 and 1.70 drivers from D-Link and try them.

Also what Router Brand are you using and its Model Number?

Hello,

Router I have is ZyXEL and the model is P-2602HWT-F3.

I thought the driver were lined up with the router brand.  Are you sure I could download D-Link drivers and use them with the current set-up I have?

As you will guess by my questions, I am not a specialist and I just want to make sure I don't do anything that would interfere with good runnignof my system.

Thanks.

Hi Frederic,

You are coming here, because the DWA-552 is not performing well. Replace the drivers using Device Manager, after unpacking them. Do not use Setup within.

Try them and see.

Why didn't you by a matching Wireless Adapter for the ZyXel Router?
Just curious.

I bought the wireless before I moved from Canada to Bergen in Norway.  I had no idea what router was available at the time.

Are you suggesting this would be easier to try to change the wireless card and find one recommended for the router?

Thanks.

Hi Frederic,

One can't do matching for Laptops, but can do so for Desktops.

I can't say that will work, because I don't know the ZyXEL model.

I can say that I own a D-Link DWA-552 and I purchased its matching Router, a D-Link DIR-655 Hardware Rev. A3 at that time. I have no problems, running under Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3 installed in a 32-Bit environment.

You never went into details about your Network before in your first post, back in October, 2011. You only posted the symptoms.
