Title: DNS-343 compatible with new Samsung 1.5TB HDD ?
Post by: szern on June 16, 2009, 07:28:10 AM
Does anyone know if the new Samsung 1.5TB HDD will work in the DNS-343 unit?
Want to make sure before I buy 4 units and can't get em' to work in the DNS-343.

Details below...
Samsung's 1.5TB EcoGreen F2EG SATA HDD (three 500 GB platters)

EcoGreen F2
Label : HD154UI
Capacity : 1.5 TB
Interface : SATA 3.0 Gbps
Buffer memory : 32 MB

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?group=72&type=61&subtype=78&model_cd=444&ppmi=1170

Much appreciated.

Thanks!

One caveat, green drives usually mean they will shut down to save energy. This MAY cause problems if one shuts down and the array breaks.
I don't know this for a fact, just speculation. I am very hesitant to recommend green drives for a raid 5 array.
Please!
Someone correct me if this is a wrong assumption. I have not, nor am able to afford, testing green drives for clients.

I don't see why the array would break. Otherwise the array would break when you have HDD Hibernation enabled as part of the NAS.
