Title: DCS-825L Firmware 3% and then shutdown
Post by: RonR on April 01, 2017, 05:17:26 PM
Camera worked for local login but could not setup a D'link account for remote access, decided to try firmware upgrade

Windows 7 PC
Downloaded lastest Zip for this model
Logged into camera using its local IP address, user admin, P/W what I had setup
Got the web interface, selected the unzipped 1.08 .bin file and then Upload
Took a few seconds and saw 1% then 2% then 3% then..............nothing didn't freeze % just went away, no Blue iCloud light on the camera anymore just red power light
I left if for an hour but with no Blue wifi light I figured it was done, as in toast

Sure enough it is not showing up on Router or Fing

I tried the unpower then power up holding down reset button for 10-15 seconds, it starts to flash red power light then after I release reset it goes to Green power light but still no Blue wifi light
Holding down reset button while camera is on doesn't change Green light to Red so not resetting

I read about some WiFi only D'link cameras being able to reload Firmware from MicroSD card
So I cleared an SD card, added a Folder called upgrade
Put the firmware in the folder and named it update it is a .bin file

Tried it and still no joy

No blue light

Anything I have missed?

Camera is no longer supported unless I pay the $30 for one time issue, camera has been good and will get a dlink again but the $30 is 25% of new camera so............

What browser are you using?
Any PC security software or plugins enabled?

Try FF or IE11

Thank you for the welcome

I was using Firefox browser
AVG(anti-virus) was off

Never got any popups indicating an "intrusion detected"

Since this camera has WiFi only, no hard wire connection, I can no longer "talk" to it because I assume the partial firmware update disable the WiFi in the camera, no blue light coming on.

I tried using the microSD card method to recover camera, as described for other WiFi only cameras but doesn't seem to work on this model

Is there a different folder name or .bin name I should try on the SD card?
maybe this model is looking for another "name" for firmware update via SD card

Or can the USB power port be used to upload firmware?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I did call, this model no longer has free support, so I need to pay the $30 for one time issue, which they said may or may not solved the problem, lol, at least they were honest about it :)
Original problem was I could not setup d'link account to view camera off-site, could view it on-site, local LAN
So I decide to try firmware update
and.................

We are here

Similar new model runs $120-$140 so the $30 I think will be better spent going that way since even if I did fix it I would have still have an older unsupported camera

Thank you for the time

Well if they can't seem to get it fixed, may be worth an RMA if they deem it bad and unrecoverable.
