Connecting to Ecobee thermostat: 2.4Ghz only?
« on: June 18, 2021, 08:41:17 AM »

I’m trying to add an Ecobee 3 thermostat to HomeKit on my COVR 2202 network. The Ecobee support site says your smartphone needs to be connected to 2.4Ghz WiFi to be able to see the thermostat. I turned off the B unit to make sure both are connecting to the same base unit, but no luck.

Is there a way to temporarily turn off the 5Ghz to get connected? I looked in the Admin panel and didn’t see options, but maybe options have disappeared and might return if I reset to factory settings.

Is anyone else successfully using an Ecobee with HomeKit and a COVR2202? The Ecobee joins the network fine, and I can use the Ecobee app locally or remotely just fine. But I haven’t been able to add it to HomeKit.

Happen to have a prior or older 2.4Ghz wifi router? If so, connect this to the back of the A point and set same SSID name and PW on this router. Use this to get the controller connected. Once connected Turn OFF the other router and the controller should migrate to the COVR wifi system. The problem with this is that the IoT mfr doesn't allow the setup mobile device to be connected on 5Ghz which is on the SAME network as 2.4Ghz.  :-\

I’m not sure what you mean by the controller. The thermostat is connected to the COVR network. My smartphone is connected to the COVR network. The AppleTV that’s the central HomeKit hub is connected to the COVR network. When I try to add the thermostat to HomeKit from within the Ecobee smartphone app, it doesn’t find the thermostat. I’ve been able to add a Schlage smart lock and a Lutron hub.

Does the COVR system use 5GHz only? If it uses 2.4 and 5, I’m not sure how adding a 2.4 WiFi router with he same SSID/password would let the Ecobee connect, since the Ecobee is already connected? If the problem is my smartphone connecting over 5GHz, would an additional 2.4Ghz WiFI router force the smartphone to use that router?

controller = thermostat

Yes if you have a spare router that you have on hand you can connect that to the COVR system or turn OFF the COVR system and setup the 2nd spare router using same SSID name and PW used on the COVR system. Get the controller connected. Once it's all setup. Turn OFF the 2nd router and turn ON the COVR system. The controller should connect to the COVR system since it broadcasts both 2.4 and 5Ghz signals. If the controller does not connect, then there is a problem with the controller not working on the COVR system. You'll need to make contact with the controllers mfr as well as D-link in regards to this if this doesn't work. If other devices are connecting to the COVR system and this one isn't, it would point to something about this one device that it's mfr needs to look into.
