DSL-2740B problems with dns
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:07:43 AM »

I bought a new DSL-2740B and I am having a hard time connecting to some sites. At the bottom of the browser it says connecting to...

I added the dns addresses to the router, but still the same problem. I change the router by an older one, and everything works fine.

Any clues about what could be wrong?

Is there anything called DNS relay option anywhere in the settings?

Is the PCs network settings set up for automatic obtain addressing?

Any other solutions? What is the best firmware for this router?

Any Advanced DNS Service option on this modem? I know stand alone routers have this, not sure about the modems. Turn if OFF if you have this option.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Sorry to dig up this post but I just realize why I had so much DNS issues...

Did anyone tried one of the latest firmwares to check if this bug still exist ? I'm on 5.16 and saw a 5.17 and a beta one but I don't want to erase my config because I'm not sure of my ISP password xD

I recommend that you acquire your ISP account and PW information then do a factory reset and update FW then factory reset once more then set up the modem. Get your ISP info first though.
